The Tsunami that hit Hawaii was smaller

than expected. Only hit at three feet in Maui, from media reports

But it was still a lesson in direction of travel and wave. It was still larger (though created no impact thankfully) than the one generated by the Japan 9.0

Remember, this one was over a thousand times less strong than that one, but the wave that hit Hawaii was larger.

This is why all that matters, it is not just the force of the event, but also the direction of the wave generated.

Due to a stroke of geography I live in an area of the country that pretty much is mostly safe from tsunamis, but still pay attention to them.

Oh and to the civil defense folks in Hawaii. my hats are off to you.

rip currents generated by even small tsunami's should not be underestimated and caution should be exercised.

But the point I was trying to make is tat due to direction of event, the wave was larger than the Japan quake.
