I had the most frustrating conversation

It was with young woman who is in her early 20s. She is adamantly pro-life. She has Spina Bifida, and has been more sheltered than most people who I know. As I was talking with her, it occurred to me that she seems to have very little connection to her own sexuality\womanhood.
And, she does not understand the reality of rape. I find it interesting that she is an avid fan of Law & Order SVU. It's as if she is just an observer when it comes to sexuality, and rape seems normal. The totality of those qualities seem to be similar to the over the hill men making absurd comments.

What to do?

1. I'm not sure there is anything you can do.

Sometimes I think I live in an alternate universe sort of like the Matrix. One of my favorite, old time posters has a person sitting in front of a television with the caption, "why do you think they call it programing?" seems to apply here.

2. can you give examples of what things she said ?

especially when you said she does not understand the reality of rape. did you mean that she was in denial of it happening to so many people ?

but there are some people you can't convince to change their minds.

3. It was very strange, actually

I mentioned that it is possible that he could have paternity rights and she said "but he would be in prison."

When it came to saving the life of the mother. She could not wrap her head around it. "But then 2 people would be dead." She did not understand, the possibility of a condition where a fetus is killing a woman.

I understand part of her perspective that fetuses are aborted because they have a condition similar to hers. And there are a rash of wrongful birth lawsuits advertised on television in our area. "That could have been me" is an irrational sentimental belief that is difficult to work around.
