Brutally honest. the issue of race in the race. infographic

in light of the study making the rounds today about how how 51% of Americans view black Americans, that's on DU's front page. Hard to believe we're still fighting this battle in this century.

19. It Kills Me

It kills me that Barrack and Michelle Obama are EVERYTHING that Conservatives claim they want Africans Americans to be; both are self made, both grew up humble, but they got a good education and became successfully, both are devoted to their family, but NO; it's still not good enough! God there sure are a lot of racists left in America. Very sad.

That should be near the top of any list.

Obama has done more for women than any President in our lifetime.

8. A lot of people are in denial about just how racist America really is.

Racism is systemic in this country.
Yet, a lot of people posting here say that the "race is over" for President, and yet not one vote has been counted yet.
Not one vote!!

It's incredible to me for anyone to think this race is over when the calendar says it is still October.

the way he is by the Republican Party and the Teabaggers. Not about his policies but about his skin color. So shameful for our country.

20. Welcome to DU, PaulRevere08!

It's really a disgrace the way he's been treated and disrespected. If it was a republi-CON getting that kind of abuse and disrespect the GOP and Pox Noise would be apoplectic, round-the-clock. An utter disgrace!!!! The damn-near treasonous disrespect myth wrongney has paid to our Commander-In-Chief - makes me sick to my stomach.

Terrorism overseas? They dump all over Obama before they even know what happened. On September 11th, 2001, we all banded together, Democrats with republi-CONS, and got behind the so-called president we had then, BECAUSE IT WAS SIMPLY THE CORRECT AND PATRIOTIC AND HONORABLE THING TO DO!!!!! There's no way on earth that we could expect similar behavior from this crop of GOP shit-stains. Including the head GOP shit-stain, mitt-stain.

Let's keep him OUT of the Oval Office!!!!

Now get to work.

12. Work twice as hard to get half the credit

Black kids are raised to understand that this will be the rule they will be judged by as adults in the real world.

Now you get to see it in technicolor with the presidential election.

That about sums it up.

In a school, 2 childen, 1 White, 1 Black, turn in the identical paper. White child gets an "A", Black child gets a "C" and is accused of copying off the White child. This is a day in the life of far too many of us throughout our lives....

21. This is the ugly truth

I share the sentiments of a caller to the Stephanie Miller Show this past week. She was emotional, and so am I. President Obama is smart and classy and has done good things for our country in the face of non-stop, hate-filled opposition and disrespect. He came into the White House to the giant flaming pile of dog poo left by Bush Co. It makes me want to cry that we are so mean.

23. I have two issues with this post.

1. It is defeatist in nature. Like a win by Romney is assumed, and that is just wrong.

2. Not helpful to blame a potential loss in this election on race. It could contribute to civil unrest, and that will benefit no one.

24. But wait, there's more...

I'm saddened that for the second time in my life, we have to fight for "race equality" and "gender equality" on top of poverty. All the while fighting for gay rights.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, are endowed.
The ability to make a buck is regulated by commerce.

When will they ever learn?

32. very wrenching and stressful to watch from Canada

As a Canadian, I have to admit it is heart-sickening to watch the racism get worse as a result of an African-American president, although I am hoping (deluding myself?) that if he weren't perceived as a real threat to the plutocrats they wouldn't be so extreme and vitriolic. Doesn't make it less than a battle against $$ giants...
Quick anecdote--once had a relative of a friend visiting with her--he is from Texas. He told me that we (canadians) have 'a different kind of black person up here'. I cannot tell you my shock. All I could think to reply was 'well maybe we treat 'them' differently 'up here'!?'
Trying to be optimistic here--Mitt Romney being so outrageously awful as a candidate, I can only hope that this continues to create a huge counter-force. Especially to those threatening to 'take it to the streets'. (What century are they living in!?)

Every day I worry that someone will cause Obama harm. And, I wish I could vote there!

34. And I wish I could move to your country.

I've wanted to live there for a long time.

No country is perfect regarding racism: Canada has racism too. So I'm not deluded on that score.

But...it IS different there. And I certainly feel "freer" when I am there visiting.

33. I was born AFTER Kennedy was assanninated and we are still HERE?

I wanted us, the world to be better than THIS by now. What was all that for that I read about ? All the history, MLK, and on and on it goes, all the tears.

I remember just being so proud four years ago, because I simply could not believe our nation would elect a black president. I will be honest. I haven't agreed with everything he's done. But then again, I don't know why he's done everything he's done. All I know is I never thought I'd see it happen and now it's like they are yanking our chains again.

But there is such a thing as the good fight. And you can't ever stop fighting that fight. Because it's the only kind of fight that is good. I'm a peace loving person. But I believe we are supposed to fight for our rights as human beings for ourselves and each other.
