This morning I thought the worst of us would bypass us.
Now it seems it's back on track for the DE Beaches.

(4,214 posts)a state of emergency. 9 other states have done so. My husband just came from the eastern shore area area and the capts are all taking their boats into the sound. I want Sandy to run the other direction, too.

issued unless positively necessary. In the meantime, he said
crews have been ordered to prepare. I'm at UD and
they encouraged students living in dorms yesterday to return to
their homes. Drove around Newark this morning and it looks
like lots of kids took it to heart. Markell also asked that

I was glad to see a particularly offensive had been removed

Looked like someone took a blade and sliced it out of it's

(95,337 posts)Most guests at the Sea Witch festival will leave tomorrow AM and the storm won't hurt businesses as much.

(4,214 posts)the staff at the hotel was frustrated because they can't return money unless there's a state of emergency. I think they've been fielding those questions and complaints all day and they're exhausted from the whole works, knowing it would have to happen but not able to make clients happy. I switched to another week so I'm good - of course I may freeze my butt off in Nov. I hope something is still open then. More than anything I hope the boardwalk and beach are not destroyed.

(95,337 posts)First, we have a few days and the access routes out of the beach area are pretty good.
There is a massive festival this weekend in Rehobeth Beach - the Sea Witch Festival. It's a huge business boom to the beach towns that are starting to see a decline in business with the summer season long gone. The festival ends tomorrow and I think if Markell called it yesterday or even earlier today alot of business would have went home and hurt Beachtown business. Most people will be leaving tomorrow after lunchtime and will be plenty of time to get the area ready for the storm.
The good thing is that the Toll Booths will be shut down to prevent any backup of traffic.

(11,910 posts)emergencies when he first took office too.
UD and school districts just made calls to families to announce their closings for Tuesday as well, saying the earliest they would resume classes is Wednesday. Probably because it was upgraded to hurricane strength again (as expected). UD employees still have to report, but I guess 12yo son can stay home with daughter (as long as he doesn't keep her from studying for her chem midterm.). If Markell declare a statewide state of emergency, I think UD employees would be off also. Right now we'd have to take vacation days, and both hubby and I have meetings on our schedules. I'd feel safer being at home since we have some really huge trees that are practically sitting on top of our house. I know I couldn't do anything about them, I'd just feel safer.
It's great they were able to have the Sea Witch festival AND that the storm slowed a bit. They were originally thinking that the weather would start degrading by this afternoon.

(14,040 posts)is that I bet all the politicians will scramble to make sure services are restored quickly. What politician wants to be known as the one that screwed up election day?
