We are on the verge of re-electing our historic and transformational Democratic president. History will look back with pride and with wonder at the audaciousness of our efforts: We'll look back with pride and satisfaction that we stood and fought, resolved, to propel our progressive destiny into the future; firmly behind this remarkable and capable man. Whatever else that we win or lose, we've made our mark on American history in a way that will roil the tradition and practice of generations of political aspirants and enthusiasts to come. Despite our differences; despite our setbacks, failures, and disappointments; we're still united behind one principle; one guiding aspiration from our Organizer-in-Chief: Hope. Hope for the future, in all that we endeavor to accomplish in our advocacy, activism, and participation in the processes of government. Here's to US, in these amazing times, DU! Cheers, and (in the days and years ahead) best of luck to us all!

GREAT post, you hit the nail on the head!
Conservatives can keep building sandcastles all they want, some may hold out longer than others, but the incoming progressive tide of history is unstoppable. |

10. Amazing Times indeed better with your participation.

Vote, early if possible. Help get out the votes of others. Get with the campaign directly if possible. Make phone calls to friends and family. Knock on doors in your neighborhood. Keep records of your actions. You can with 1-2 hours per day on this help 500-1000 people vote. Lovin it.

Electoral Vote
http://www.electoral-vote.com/ Nate Silver's 538 blog for the NYTL: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/ Huffington Post Polling place http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/2012/romney-vs-obama-electoral-map The popular vote may look tight, but the electoral college vote is the one that matters, it is relatively stable and we're way out in front. |

Last edited Thu Oct 25, 2012, 03:17 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I donated to my high school for an auction in 1969. It brought more than my other paintings, coming in at $350.00 and there were many smiling faces. I want to see that again in my lifetime, that hope, love and relief. Yes, these days are special.

20. Yep, amazing times.

Climate change, increasing, Arctic sea ice predicted to be gone in summer within a few years; US government, still without the political will to actually formulate an effective policy for dealing with it or mitigating it, instead it's all "North American energy independence!" and fracking and tar sands and "clean coal". The biggest single crisis facing the planet in memory, with consequences that will affect not only Americans but all of the seven billion humans on earth and every other species, and the USA has consistently and continually dropped the ball because it's not politically convenient. But hey, we have time to argue about relatively meaningless things as though they actually matter. I don't really have a lot of hope for the future, personally. Slightly more with Obama than with Romney. But realistically? We're pretty fucked no matter what; at this point it's all rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

21. I doubt the Titanic comparison is really quite appropriate, though.
|
I mean, let's not kid ourselves, this is a very serious problem. But if we focus too much on apocalyptic imagery, all it does is turn people off and make them stick their heads in the sand....I can speak from personal experience, btw, because I was one of them.
Realistically speaking, as bad as things have gotten, we can in fact, mitigate the problem at hand, and there is still a chance to carry it out. Our problem is not by any means, "can we do it?", but rather, "when WILL we do it?". |

|
They'll tell stories, they'll write poems. Hell, we'll do some of that ourselves.
And we can say we came through it all, and proved that goodness and right can prevail. And that is historical. |
