Has anyone here had an opportunity to speak with a woman who supports the RW position on . . . .

. . . . . women's reproductive rights and the audacity of people who think they can legislate it?

I never have. I wonder, in real face to face conversation, they defend it. Actually, I can understand defense of the position not to abort. Honest I can. I can even understand defense of their view that they out to be able to outlaw it.

I simply can't comprehend disallowing the rape/incest exception. How do they defend it?

2. My Mom. Here is her 'logic':

1) An embryo is a human child, no matter how conceived
2) Aborting a human is murder
3) If the mother does not want to keep the child she can give the child up for adoption.

Full stop. No exceptions.

4. I have heard this from a few, never will I agree with them.

The same ones raises hell about aid to dependent children and assistance to families. I let them know it is important for the child to be cared for after birth also or is this better to let the child starve to death. This decision should be left to each person facing the thought of abortion. As far as myself, I could make the decision for abortion for me.

5. Ya I have. My mom and aunt and a bunch of old people I know.

"How do they defend it?"
They think abortion takes a human life so they defend regulating it on that basis.

6. My wife was trying to explain it to me

I asked her to explain why these Republican women seem to still support Romney and Ryan after all this "rape talk."

Her idea is that our Republican women neighbors don't think they will ever be in a situation where they could be raped so its not an issue to them. So all this "rape" talk means nothing. At the same time these same women are opposed to abortion and see that Romney and Ryan are opposed to it so that is who they are going to vote for.

It's a dis-associative thing. They separate themselves from all the "rape" discussion and focus on the key pro-life idea. They probably also think that when these Republican Congressmen make outlandish remarks about rape, it's just men saying stupid things. So they give them a free pass on it.

I asked her, well if they don't think they will be in a situation where it may happen to them, they still have daughters. She told me they believe their daughters would be kept safe from a situation like that or they are in denial that it could happen.

Their main thought above everything is they are against abortion. That's the main ideal. The rape part is a secondary thing that will probably never affect them. So they vote Republican.

8. I haven't met them, either, but I'm Canadian.

We have absolutely no rules on abortion. We have, however, full coverage of abortion through the national health program....and full sex ed, including various forms of contraception and the ways to use them and the possible health effects. This keeps abortion safe, legal and rare.

9. I was handing out lit for Kerry in AZ in 2008 and a woman looked at me with absolute hatred and said

"He's a BABY KILLER and so are YOU for supporting him!"

I was shocked at the level of vitriol coming at me.

10. I have

In the 80s I worked with a woman who was a rabid pro-lifer, Catholic, opposed to birth control too. Compounding the issue she had infertility issues (so she had no comprehension that you might not always want to get pregnant!) and an adopted child ("what if his birth mother had killed him!" etc.)
This was an office full of women and we knew where C. stood on the issue so we avoided the topic studiously. However it came up one day and someone asked her the rape question. Her response: "that's no reason to kill the baby! That baby has the right to life..." I had to leave the room. At the time no politician even suggested "no exceptions for rape"; the thought of forcing a rape victim to bear the spawn was shocking and unheard of. Still should be.

12. My mother is catholic and conservative

When I was pregnant with twins and told that one was not developing properly, would never survive outside the womb and was threatening the life of the other healthy baby she told me she could not make the decision to end a life and that it was gods will if the other one survived. It's the big reason we don't really get along anymore. I just don't get her.
