4 students suspended after noose incident
NEWTON -- Four students have been suspended for what the school district said is a terrible prank but not a hate crime.
It happened Monday at Fred T. Foard High School on Plateau Road in Newton. Four white students were involved in an incident in which one of the boys pulled out a rope that resembled a noose and showed it to a ninth-grade African-American female student as the group stood in the halls of the Catawba County school.
Superintendent Glenn Barger said he watched hallway surveillance video. While it was a "stupid act" on the part of the boys involved, he said, "I do not believe that it was a hate crime."
Barger said that during the districts investigation and after speaking with all the parties involved, he determined that it was just "stupid horseplay, and the boy who actually had the rope was a friend of the victim."

(80,708 posts)"Superintedent Glenn Barger" seems awfully interested in covering up and playing down. According to him everyone is big pals, just a simple misunderstanding.. so how did we get to the point of an investigation? Did the girl complain, before later saying "oh yeah, so and so is my friend" (translation: I'm getting shit and don't want to get this kid in more trouble)?
Sounds like a fucked up threat, to me. But what do I know.

(36,814 posts)I can imagine that whatever they were saying must have been pretty bad. It's just goddam pathetic when teenagers pull this shit because more than likely one or more of them are learning it from their parents. There's not too many things worse than parents who teach their kids how to hate.
