1. No . . . I renewed mine about 3 or 4 years ago.

I was not supplied with a copy.

2. I photocopied mine

but it wouldn't stand up in a "court of law" as a valid document. The original is with the State Department.

6. But once you get your passport, why keep the photocopy?

My most recently renewed passport's four years old. There's no reason to keep a copy of the four-year-old application when I've got the passport itself.

9. You're right - there's no reason

to keep it. I was just saying that Trump asking President Obama to supply a copy of his passport application is useless and the State Department keeps those confidential. I know someone who works in that office.

3. Nope. They take it when you apply. It's an official document. nt

4. The application goes to the State Department

Why would any citizen keep a copy of it?

This is Trump's way of making it an impossible demand for Obama to fulfill. of course Obama can't produce his passport application -- which means he MUST be hiding something.

5. Just renewed mine

Didn't get a copy of form but since I filled it out on computer there is a PDF. Why? Is this trumps foolishness?

11. Exactly....

I sent mine in by mail - but a PDF or a photocopy of the applications doesn't have the parts filled out by the State Department - it's useless to prove anything. Trump is insane and I hope the President just ignores him completely. It is foolish to tangle with a fool.

7. I guess he is hoping to find out which birth certificate was used for the

application? When I re-applied last year they sent my birth certificate back, although I am guessing they made a copy to keep with my application.

Trump is hoping to find a smoking gun lurking somewhere in the applications and other documents he is asking President Obama to produce. A single thing that "doesn't match" or seems odd will be scrutinized endlessly for signs of something amiss. It's really pathetic if this is all he's got.

8. Obama's application for a passport would be DECADES AGO

And any application since then would be for a passport RENEWAL. Which does NOT require a birth certificate.

If Trump wants the initial application, there's no way anyone would keep a copy of the application for thirty or more years. There is no way to fulfill this deal to Trump's satisfaction.

12. I got my first passport in 1970.

I've renewed several times since, and really need to do so again.

Needless to say, even if I'd bothered to photocopy that original application back then (and in 1970 photocopy machines weren't all that readily available to any random person) I'd have long since discarded it.

Suggesting that someone would have a copy of a passport application is beyond stupid. No one keeps those things unless they're seriously compulsive about paperwork. Who keeps copies of credit card applications? Library card applications? Voter registrations applications? Basically, no one. And certainly not for many years.
