Write a few words about SOPA/PIPA in a box and I'll address and fax it to all your legislators *

* reserving the right to skim the contents, so I don't end up in Guantanamo on account of someone's wacky antics

There are bills before both houses of congress right now designed to censor the internet, just like in China and Iran. They are likely to be rammed through before the end of this month.

If you want to let your Senators and Representatives know how you feel about it, I'll fax your letter to them:

If you really want to make an impact, call as well. If you *really* care about this, also ask to set up a meeting. There's plenty of resources available to prepare you for it.

Here's a list of Senators refusing to meet with their constituents about these bills:

Please kick this if freedom of speech is a right you care about.

Talk to neighbors, and otherwise publicize this in any way possible. There has been a virtual media blackout on MSM, which is outrageous since this vote will affect every one of us.

(sarcasm) or are you talking about unlawful free speech which is it?
because if it is unlawful I guess I should be for banning it or something? (/sarcasm)

What a mess... my senator thinks that we should not stifle lawful free speech... see below

This is the reply I received from one of my Senators.

"Thank you for writing to me regarding S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act of 2011. I understand your concerns.

I am a cosponsor of this legislation because I believe that we must protect American intellectual property against foreign websites that infringe upon our rights. By empowering the Attorney General of the United States to go after foreign infringing websites, this legislation becomes a necessary tool to ensure that U.S. companies remain competitive in the world marketplace. I recognize that there are technical concerns with the enforcement of this bill that need to be addressed. I am committed to working with my colleagues in the United States Senate to ensure that this legislation protects the Constitutional rights of Americans and does not stifle lawful free speech or innovation on the internet."

Please folks, at least... call your senators and talk to a staffer, tell them that you are a constituent, tell them that you are in opposition to SOPA, ask that they inform the senator, thank them for listening, that simple. If you can find the time, repeat.

Cheers,
Agony
