Report Card: Obama A- / Romney D
I debated A- versus B+. Obama has profited nicely from the pre-prepared zingers but is not super sharp in the give and take. Sharp enough, but missing some wide open counters while at other times attacking on "meh" points. And the stammering style has always been a debate draw-back. But a very good debate. A clearly winning debate performance.
Romney is atrocious. A solid D. He seems to think he has the election in the bag and is just running out the clock, trying to avoid controversy by agreeing with the president. But he doesn't know much beyond talking points, and half of them are erroneous. So even while playing it safe he manages to say dumb, dumb stuff. And he doesn't look good. Bloated, defensive, sweaty... ghastly facial expressions. On split-screen, often looks like he has gas.
