proselytizing their religion. I am not a mormon and I would not equate a religious mission to serving in the armed forces (which I have done), but I would not go as far as to make fun of their families religious "service". What's next? Poking fun at those that served in the Peace Corps instead of the military? Comments attacking the opponents religion is not going to help Obama get out the vote.

It was their goddamned mother that did that. She insulted every service member who served in Vietnam by equating Mitt's time in France with serving a tour in 'Nam. Then she turned around in the same vein and told everybody how her boys "served"

I'm not poking fun at their religion, I'm poking fun at their arrogant ass mother, and if she doesn't like it she should keep her damn mouth shut.

Queen Ann likening his time in Paris to a tour of duty in a war zone... wtf was he doing? Fighting off mimes for his life?

especially after coming to this forum and seeing your silly and uneducated attack. I am guessing you think this helps Obama win re-election. I am new to DU, but I normally interact on DailyKos and Huffington. If this is the typical banter going on at DU, I am outta here.

you should look around for a while, there's a lot more biting satire than that here. This is among other things a place where we blow off steam. Now get lost kid, you bother me.

that dropping to the gutter level of vile distortion by attacking someone's religion will not help Obama win this re-election. While it seems that you think it is funny, I do not. Which really worries me that we cannot get the right message out to the electorate as we did in '08. Big Bird, binders, and religious "service" attacks are not going to work. Shouldn't we be talking the environment, new energy, corporate reforms to improve the economy? Hateful attacks on religion doesn't get us there. If the DU base thinks this is funny, the Democratic party is in trouble.

In case you missed the site description on the way in, this site is among other things for political satire. If the satire here is too biting for your delicate sensibilities, this might not be the site for you. Coming in here and right off the top wagging your finger at people probably isn't going to get you very far here.

I couldn't agree more. Keep in mind that this a a forum of MANY different people with a wide variety of viewpoints. Rolling up in here with a Ms Manners attitude is just going to piss people off.

My 2 cents are just take it at face value that many people here tend to use the words "Shit, Damn, Hell, Bastard, etc..." and aren't likely to change that fact just to suit you. I myself say "Bastard" one hundred times each day when I wake up just to keep my teeth white. More refreshing than Colgate I can tell you that!

Most people here are VERY friendly. Most people here will welcome you with open arms and will enjoy hearing what you have to say. So relax and chill out a bit.

ps.. Big virtual hug for you

"Bonjour, monsieur. My name is Mitt Romney. I am here to tell you about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are a religion that believes the body is a temple and we do not indulge in mind-altering substances, so as a new Mormon you will be required to give up alcohol, tobacco and caffeine on the first day. We also believe in the sanctity of marriage, so you will be required to practice monogamy."

'No alcohol? That means no wine, no cognac, no aperitifs?'

"Oui."

'And no tobacco...you mean, I would have to quit smoking.'

"Cold turkey, oui."

'No caffeine? You mean, I couldn't have any more coffee?'

"Oui. Your mind would be pure and unaltered from now until eternity."

'And monogamy? I would have to give up my mistress? But my mistress and my wife are best friends!'

"Oui."

(as the Frenchman pulls out a cleaver...) 'Monsieur Romney, do you realize where the hell you are? What you are suggesting is for me to give up everything good about being a Frenchman to join a religion I have never heard of before. Now get the hell off my lawn!'

being a Frenchman is drinking, smoking and having a mistress? Stereotype "we much"? Aren't Mormon's polygamists? So if you married your mistress, you would be good to go. Wouldn't Frenchman love that?

Seriously, though, Mormonism is almost completely incompatible with the life of an average Frenchman. You're also only allowed to deduct 479 Euro in charitable deductions from French income taxes (I looked it up; you also can only claim 75 percent of the donation on your taxes, so if you donate 400 Euro you can only deduct 300 of them), which makes one of the biggest benefits of Mormonism--major tax reductions due to the mandate to donate 10 percent of your income to the church--not look all that great there.

in the Pacific theater. One was a combat infantryman, the other served as a supply officer about one island behind the fighting.

They "served their country." The Rmoney boys did nothing but take an extended vacation and annoy people. Equating the two is monstrous, but par for the course for the would-be Kween Ann.
