Romney had an affair with one of his maids?
First the rumor started with Drudge freaking out over Gloria Allred and the story got reported here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2220526/Republicans-bracing-October-surprise-Gloria-Allred-prepares-Romney-revelation.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Then there was this tidbit revealed:
http://partners.mediatakeout.com/59124/explosive-breaking-news-mitt-romney-s-maid-is-dishing-dirt-and-if-what-she-s-saying-is-true-it-may-be-a-wrap-for-the-campaign.html
Media Takeout is owned and operated by a former corporate lawyer and he probably knows Allred.
Media Takeout indicates the news will break tomorrow. I suspect it will be in the morning and the scandal will be full swing before the debate.
If true, if a credible story is broken of a past made having an indiscrete affair with Mr. Romney, does that indeed end his campaign?

(4 posts)I think most Americans will be too suspicious of the timing of this story, and will question it's veracity. Mitty Bitty will deny it and file a lawsuit that will put it in the courts and kill the issue.

The Gropenator years will be studied in years to come as some of the most disastrous in California's history. Schwarze-Nazi completely fucked this state up and it has yet to recover.

(59,501 posts)When the rumors started in 2007, they didn't get a lot of attention, then were denied and they moved almost no one to drop Edwards. There are only 19 days until the election. The idea that this could surface and have sufficient proof is unlikely. In addition, if this were in the past, the example could be Clinton and Genefer Flowers. That story did not hurt.
The other thing is that this could be completely untrue.
The fact is that affairs hurt Gary Hart and the SC Republican governor. They hurt Edwards only after it was proven that he had a baby and hid his mistress for months while running for President. His wife had cancer and he lied to her on the extent of the relationship even as she defended him. There is no way that he was held to a higher standard than anyone else. He was actually given the benefit of the doubt - as long as there was any.

(5,928 posts)Someone, someone, passed forged documents to Rather and CBS News through a gullible intermediary. When Rather broke the story, a prominent right-wing blogger had proof of the forgery in a suspiciously short time. The story of the AWOL Bush was lost in the ensuing media uproar, and the election remained close enough to steal.
Now, I'm just trying to think like Karl Rove here. "Hmmm...nothing captures the public's attention like a sex scandal, eh? Suppose you pass some irresistibly juicy dirt to another journalist who's hungry for a scoop. Maybe get Drudge to fan the flames of expectation a bit...
"Then, once the allegations become public and the hysteria is at full pitch, wham! You release absolute, irrefutable proof that the accusations are false. Maybe the accuser declares that she was lying, or hired. The whole thing boomerangs against Obama. Every other aspect of the election is lost in the media whirlwind. The whole election is suddenly all about this despicable attempt to smear a good and virtuous family man, and whether the Obama campaign was behind it all, etc. etc. The polls shift in Romney's favor, and if Romney doesn't win outright, then at least it's close enough to steal..."
Still wearing my Rove hat, I'm thinking, "It's bold. all right, but it's dicey. Better make the preparations, though, just in case we're falling behind in the home stretch..."
Now, of course this is all sheer, wild speculation on my part. All I'm saying is, you gotta watch these neocon SOB's like a hawk. Expect skullduggery of the most vile sort from them, and you'll seldom be disappointed.

(10,270 posts)If this is FOR REAL (and can be sourced and verified as such), this fucker is DONE. Obama will pull a MASSIVE swing state win, and could well flip some currently GOP-leaning states (like MO), and even if he can't flip them in the ultimate equation, he will put a huge fucking dent in them for the next set of Mid-Terms.
If he had an affair, not a self-professed Evengelical in the country would be caught dead voting for him. They will stay home, and this misdeed will swing the undecideds in Obama's favor. Again, IF THIS IS REAL, he's done.
"...chickenhawking, tax dodging, insulting another country, and strapping his dog on top of his car, ...." is every bit "par for the course" as far as the Media is concerned, but an AFFAIR? That''s some scandalous shit right there; THAT goes on the Front Page (above the fold) and they WILL run with it. So much so that we should just change their title from The MSM, to The National Wake. Mostly though, I think it's Matt Drudge laughing at the Dems that are so hopeful for this. It makes us look like we can't win this election without some sort of scandal.

The Drudge factor makes me uneasy as this coud be a very ugly trap and we all have to be careful here. The collective we do not want pull a Mitt Romney/Libya mis-step.
Still, the fact that Allred will not deny the story is interesting.

(21,925 posts)Allred could be representing a maid who had no papers to work in this country and Romney hired her knowing this. Or it may involve an unfair firing or gender discrimination. Frankly I wish I wasn't interested in this type of rumor, but since the media won't do their job of nailing Romney for failing to come up with a credible reason for not producing his tax returns or for going after him for the various other shenanigans from his past, I'll salute any person who can put him on the hotseat for any reason.

It would definitely hurt Romney with pro-family christians. But he would probably ask for forgiveness.
Also, "Citizen Kane" comes to mind, but people are not as prudish as they were depicted to be a 100 years ago.
However, all in all, bad publicity for Romney should hurt him in a close election.
It would reinforce his image as a liar/cheater....
