Lawmaker who opposes ‘superior rights’ for gays fears reprisals - and she's a Democrat

This woman is crazy. She's comparing herself to Gabby Giffords. How insulting.

HUTCHINSON, KAN. -- With her hands curled around a cup of Chai tea, the politician who wrote the Kansas ban against same-sex marriage glances around the Metropolitan Coffee shop.

“I have friends who have told me they worry that I’ll be another Gabby Giffords, literally,” says Rep. Jan Pauls, referring to the Arizona congresswoman now recovering after a man shot her.

Pauls’ 2012 political campaign has been unsettling. The 59-year-old Democrat has served more than two decades, again and again casting her lot against the GLBT community. She’s always ran unopposed at election time — until now.

A challenge in August nearly ended her reign. A re-count showed she came within 8 votes of losing her 102nd District seat to a minimum-wage city maintenance worker named Erich Bishop, a 28-year-old political neophyte.

A gay man.

Last February, the chair of the KS Democratic Party had this to say about Jan Pauls:

No Representative Hateful, no one will harm you. However, we will lawfully and legally defeat you.

2. Isn't advocating for the defeat of Democratic candidates a TOS violation?

This, among others (see FL 2010 governor election) is why that rule is suspect, IMO. And no, I am NOT alerting as I 1) agree with you and 2) think the rule is bunk.

Bigotry and idiocy -- unfortunately -- are not exclusive to the rethuglicans. We have our fair share of haters.

And she worked on it with one of the worst far right reps in the state.

I wish there was a way we could kick her out of the party.

Supporting the likes of Lieberman or Ben Campbell, or any DINO, just because they have a (D) by their names. The word 'Democrat' needs to be change to include Liberal and Progressive. Having or claiming to have that (D) does not necessarily make them helpful to the cause. Warm bodies on our side, working against us is, in the long run, counter productive.

The Right-wing has gone so far to the right, that it has pulled this country, Democratic party and DU, well over into where the Republicans used to be. As a result, the Democratic party and DU, has gained many former Republicans that have not changed their positions on anything, other than the (R) to a (D). As a result we have many purists claiming the TOS is sacrosanct, because it has that word "Democrat", instead of the more descriptive "Liberal" or "Progressive" and any apparent violation must be punished. Reality is never that simple as to be able to have a few written rules cover every contingency.

This is a perfect example of why all Blue Dog conservatives need be eliminated in the primaries.

They weaken the foundation of our platform.
