(2,252 posts)IMHO.
On Foreign Policy the Tribune editorial board starts out fine:
But then they fall for the Republican line:
Obama doesn't pander or posture. He gathers the facts, then acts.

The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first."

From the comments, there seems to be a lack of wingnut blather.

(2,872 posts)The Deseret News is more likely to endorse Romney, if it hasn't already.
Just to give some perspective, some of my friends, who are CA Mormons and Republicans, got the Tribune when they moved to Utah because they thought it was more balanced. The Deseret News is pretty right-wing.

(2,514 posts)the Deseret News was the evening paper.. was the "church" mouthpeice.. the Trib not so much...
during my youth i actually lived in southern Idaho.. the papers were brought in from SLC every morning at 5 am.. i would deliver them before school..
at that point in time there was only one local tv station.. you had to get cable to get all the big 3.. around 5 bucks a month (not evryone had cable)...

(36,407 posts)In considering which candidate to endorse, The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board had hoped that Romney would exhibit the same talents for organization, pragmatic problem-solving and inspired leadership that he displayed here more than a decade ago. Instead, we have watched him morph into a friend of the far right, then tack toward the center with breathtaking aplomb. Through a pair of presidential debates, Romneys domestic agenda remains bereft of detail and worthy of mistrust.
Therefore, our endorsement must go to the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day. The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first.

(2,335 posts)Many newspaters you would think go red understand very well that their very existence is tethered to a strong middle class that will pay for subsciptions and have enough money to own a new computer someday to click ads. The death of the middle classs is the death of newspapers--even the e-versions. Their little fiefdoms are in jeopardy with a Romeny presidency. Like most car dealers in America, local newspaper editors who used to votre red are now voting blue. They can't take a great recession 2.0 which would follow Romney only.

(674 posts)That took real courage, and conviction... and, integrity, common sense, objectivity, perception, intelligence, decency, awareness, concern, comprehension, tolerance, logic, compassion, critical thinking, and dozens of other positive spiritual and intellectual attributes.
I applaud you for recognizing the difference between a party's pandering and an incumbent's leadership. It had to be said and the Tribune has the courage to say it, the President DESERVES a second term.

(163 posts)Considering the place of the source and the fact that Utah is bright red. I am heartened to see that maybe some Mormons are decent after all. If Romney is the only face of Mormonism then I expect that few people would want to join. I do not subscribe to any religion and have lived as a nonMormon in Mormon territory. I did not find many democrats among them. Gradually some members are coming to their senses. They still are along with the Catholic Church and many evangelicals a source of hate towards GLBT people.

(3,231 posts)This rounds out Romney's lack of support by those who know him and Ryan.
The People that know Romney and Ryan most aren't voting for them.
Massachusetts - Romney's home state - Voting for Obama/Biden
Wisconsin - Ryan's home/birth state - Voting for Obama/Biden
Michigan - Romney's birth state - Voting for Obama/Biden
On the other hand...
Illinois - Obama's home state - Voting for Obama/Biden
Hawaii - Obama's birth state - Voting for Obama/Biden
Delaware - Biden's home state - Voting for Obama/Biden
Pennsylvania - Biden's birth state - Voting for Obama/Biden
The last person to lose both home state and birth state and win the election was James Polk in 1844.
