Ann Romney: Mormon Missions and U.S. Military Are 'Different Ways of Serving'

http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/david/ann-romney-mormon-missions-and-us-military-a

The wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Thursday said that her husband and sons had not joined the U.S. military but had found "different ways of serving" by going on religious missions as part of their obligation to the Mormon church.
"He was serving his mission, and my five sons have also served missions. None served in the military, but I do have one son that feels that he's giving back to his country in a significant way where he is now a doctor and he is taking care of veterans."
"So, you know, we find different ways of serving," she added. "And my husband and my five boys did serve missions, did not serve in the military."

How can she possibly equate these Mormon "missions" proselytizing their faith, as serving the country? This is where they "served" their missions:
Tagg Romney served in Bordeaux, France.
Matt Romney served in Paris France.
Josh Romney served in Leeds, England.
Ben Romney served in Australia.
Craig Romney served in Santiago, Chile

Not exactly third world impoverished countries.
I don't think they were sleeping in the alleys with the homeless. You can bet they stayed at posh luxury accommodations. Spending a day or two a week handing out pamphlets. What did they risk? Getting a Catholic slamming the door in their face? What did they sacrifice? Forced to eat 4 star cuisine instead of 5?
She actually considers this equivalent to what our sons endure in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I've seen rotting tree stumps that are more aware of the real world around them.

Unless you're a Mormon, why would you feel that going to France to proselytize was of any use or "service" to anyone? Plenty of Mormons also serve in the military as well as fulfilling their religious duties. If the Romneys aren't courageous to put themselves in danger of harm to defend their country in the way that countless others have done (and they seem to expect others to do), maybe they could consider supporting their country and "serving" its interests by paying their fair share of taxes and not hiding millions in offshore accounts and exploiting any other available dodge.

a Mormon Mission is like a 2yr summer camp school. My brother went on one, was sent to Utah(I know right, why do they need missionaries in Utah!) and all he did was walk a couple miles a day and sit around and play video games, and call 900 numbers(no joke).

Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief",
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one.

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more!

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one.

the context of American culture: They are the chosen people, and what applies to everyone else does not apply to them.

Yes- I have a problem with the Mormons.
