do NOT discount the political importance of tonight's Al Smith dinner

Both candidates' writers will have very good comedic material for Obama and Romney to deliver.

And while we've seen that Obama has impeccable comedic timing and delivery ... Romney is awkward when telling jokes.

Because the "bar is low" for Mitt... if he delivers his lines very well, it could "humanize" him somewhat.

But the potential is also there for him to blow his lines and say something cringe worthy.

Al Smith was FDR before FDR was and a Democrat's Democrat. Al Smith would put his boot so far up Willard's ass he'd be tasting shoe polish for a month.

and a lot of politicians the rest of the time.

I happened to attend this dinner in 2001: unfortunately, it marked the first emergence of crashcart Cheney from his bunker.
