Obama extends slim lead over Romney in White House race
(Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama gained ground on Republican rival Mitt Romney for the third straight day, leading 46 percent to 43 percent, according to the Reuters/Ipsos daily tracking poll released on Tuesday.
Released hours before the presidential contenders face off for their second debate, the poll showed the number of undecided voters had increased, indicating a drop of support for Romney among the coveted voting bloc.
The poll showed that Obama has recovered some ground after a poor showing in his first presidential debate. After dropping below Romney in the wake of the October 3 debate, Obama regained the lead on Sunday and has increased that by 1 percentage point each day this week.
"I think what we're seeing is after the first debate Romney definitely saw a surge. A lot of his surge wasn't coming from Obama voters, it was coming from undecided voters, which is exactly where both candidates are seeking support," Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said.
"Now, we've actually seen the Romney bump decrease again a little bit," Clark said.
She said the number of people who have changed their minds and moved back to the undecided column took 2 percentage points off Romney's support and one point from Obama. Undecided voters now account for about 13 percent of likely voters, compared to 10 percent on Monday.

(1,412 posts)race be that close. I don't believe the polls. Romney only "won" the first debate because he lied with a flair. Obama had the facts on his side, so I call him the winner. The GOP Romney/Ryan are going down! They are a lying bunch of swarms that want it all, they don't care about the middle class, you, me or grandma, they just want more for themselves and the rest of the plutocrats who are running this country.

(330 posts)This makes the most sense in deciphering the polls,Obama supporters were not likely to throw the towel in simply because of the President being caught off guard by twofacedtwit, so the undecideds fell for the bull the twit was peddling and most likely had not been following tfts campaign, until the debate night, but smokin Joe bitched slapped lyin Eddie and here we are again....if the President brings up the 47%(we known he meant it)Bain Freeport(outsourcing American jobs)Roevwade(no choices) he will pull many undecideds and those, who still can't make a choice evidently can't be helped

(13,776 posts)I have to believe that when all those lies from the first debate are corrected, many of them will switch to Obama. I can't judge anybody for being uninformed; some people are working two jobs to put bread on the table. Or maybe they don't like politics.
Whatever their reason for being uninformed, it's no surprise that, when Romney said his health care plan would keep coverage for pre-existing conditions and neither Obama nor Lehrer corrected him, they believe him. Why wouldn't they? In fact, Romney's blatant lie rather ironically made Obama look like a liar for saying pre-existing conditions wouldn't be covered under Romney's plan.
Once they find out the truth, a lot of them will switch to Obama, I think. Coverage for pre-existing conditions is such a huge deal and it has the potential to really affect people's lives in a very concrete way.
