Romney will panic...

This is only my opinion but I do not think Romney is very stable. I keep thinking back to the comment by Ann Romney that she was not worried so much about the type of job Mitt would do...She was more worried about his emotional state.?? What did she mean by that?

I think the President only has to be "presidential" and cool, but with the facts, and Romney will "lose his composure" somewhere during the debate. He will look like a lab rat on speed. Just a hunch.

I agree with you on the panic thing, especially if there is a question he isn't prepared to answer. He doesn't strike me as someone who is good thinking on his feet, or being spontaneous.

That one of the undecided voters can't pull a fast one and ask a question which is different than what they submitted. Not necessarily likely, but it could happen.

the questions stray from the approved format.

this is not a debate, this is a sham, an act, that rivals bullshit for bullshits sake.

I want a real debate, the kind we had in highschool where both sides of an issue were

argued about instead of one of these "blah, blah, blah" vx "yada, yada, yada" things.

Bring back the League of Women Voters as moderators and let the questions be from actual citizens

from both sides.

Phew, I needed to get that offa my chest.

Now, all his fears are about to be realized. Why do you think he canceled the View? There are issues out there that he doesn't want to answer.

...is probably Romney's worst nightmare. He avoids the unwashed masses and his fenced off from them in his daily one percent life.

This is a guy who doesn't know how to relate to the average person and countless videos showing him unraveling and being combative when questioned by average citizens.

I think he'll do his best to be fake and try to pull it off.

However, I think Obama has the advantage in this type of forum.

After all, it was Romney who degraded and spoke so horribly of the "47 percent" and now he is forced to answer questions from these people.

At best, he'll be a little shaky and uncomfortable--at worst--he'll completely unravel.

And when questioned one-on-one he becomes more aggressive.

He's a polished salesman. He will not panic.

But he will reveal the fakery of the salesman, without realizing it. Ryan didn't panic, but he got blown out of the water.

But I think you are correct in that he will reveal the fakery of the salesman. He will try to dominate, because that is his nature. He will talk faster and louder, as if that makes him smarter. That is when the President needs to stay cool and simply smile.

did try to build something. Romney was a gambler with other peoples' money and very little of his own and he was ruthless/heartless enough to win. He was a leverage king - cut from the same cloth as the Wall Street raiders who bankrupted this country. He has no "business" experience. He didn't do much as a governor either. His legacy is negligible and is approaching less than zero because of how he acquired his fortune and how he avoided paying taxes. Tell him that without his income tax returns there is no reason to believe anything he says about his great fortune, his patriotism, his tax plan/policies or his suitability to be President.

The charges against [Romney] were dropped several days later and officially dismissed in February 1982 at Natick District Court. At Romney's request, the judge also agreed to seal the records, making them unavailable for public inspection.

Romney said the guard told him not to put the boat in the water or he would be ticketed and fined $50. Frustrated and feeling that the license was still somewhat visible, Romney defied the order, saying it would be worth his while to be fined $50 to enjoy the day on the lake with his family.

When he began to put his boat in the water again, Romney said the park ranger reappeared, furious over Romney's defiance, and arrested him. Romney said he was handcuffed and taken to the Natick police station and booked.

I'd love to hear from the arresting officer. What an example for his children, huh?

Romney is used to speaking at business forums on topics and taking questions from people who are only familiar with his business record and whatever corporate investment pitch he's working. So he can walk into a town-hall setting looking confident and not seem rattled initially.

He'll probably be able to take some critical questions on issues if he can spin them into a sales pitch rather than address the issue frankly. However, I'm pretty sure he can't defend positions, because that's not what he's used to doing. I wouldn't be surprised if he'll end up attempting to pull the same space-crowding crap he pulled on Gov. Perry during those debates, thinking that the President can be cowed because of his passivity during the first debate. While Perry is a rather insecure empty suit, the President isn't, and I hope he's ready for that sort of bullying from Romney.

If you cut Romney's sales-line or subtle bully options, his only other option seems to be to throw a tantrum.

Apparently all the town-meeting people will be undecided voters??

That seems designed to favour Romney, but I think it will backfire.

These voters may be looking for justifications to vote Republican, but I don't think Romney's sanctimonious tone and demeanour will satisfy them.

Romney is an accomplished serial liar and bullshit artist, as are most high functioning sociopaths. No matter what happens, he will bullshit and lie his way through, and there is no point in expecting anything different.

What we can realistically hope for is that he is his most obnoxious self, either with a slip of disdain or outright insult to an audience member when somebody dares to question him. And/or that he creeps out the audience with his feigned attempts at connecting with one of the 47%.

President Obama has to not let his dislike for Romney impact his own performance. Throughout the campaign, the democrats have controlled their own narrative and even while answering GOP lies with facts, not let the GOP control the narrative. Pres O must do that, while connecting with and answering the audience (his natural talent).
