(24,411 posts)The majority of Chick-fil-A stores are in malls. The majority of mall patrons are young people in their early teens and twenties.
I can't see that demographic wanting to give their money to a homophobic, hate-based business when there are so many other choices in food courts in malls.
That's the point about small, fast-food restaurants like this. There are so many other choices, and often they are right next to each other. By making 50 percent of the population hate you...how can this be good for business?
We ate their every so often. We will never eat there again. I'm sure there are bigots who go out of their way to eat there. However, this is fried chicken. It's a non-essential product--unlike gasoline or staples that people eat every week like bread, eggs or milk. With essentials, people tend to forget bad PR surrounding a product. With non-essentials, people do remember and they will avoid the brand, because it's not that difficult to do so.
This ad...shameful. It's bullying and name calling and they know it. And we wonder why bullying is epidemic in the schools? These people really are sick and pathetic. Maybe I should send this Chick-fil-A store my school's anti-bullying policy. They're violating several rules on it. Pretty sad when adult business owners can't even meet the standards of decent behavior meant for 12-year olds.

(143 posts)The number of people who turned out a few months ago was staggering. And people love their chicken.

(24,411 posts)The Chick-Fil-A brand is now and forever affiliated with being bigoted against gay people.
I don't see that as a successful, long-term business strategy. Small business owners avoid political statements like the plague, because they know that if 50 percent of the general public avoid them--it's a recipe for disaster.
Their chicken is terrific, but we avoid it now. So really, that doesn't matter. If half of the population refuse to give you a dime--that's a problem.
I grew up in a family that owned many fast-food restaurants in malls. My father was a staunch, right-wing conservative. He avoided politics when it came to his business, because it made sense from a financial point of view. It's competitive enough, without giving a good chunk of the population--good reason to avoid you.
Chick-Fil-A, undoubtedly will suffer because of this.

(11,366 posts)I didn't know and didn't care when I was in high school (frequent mall denizen).
When I got to college and started caring, I never went to a mall. I could go to far more interesting places, then.

(32,045 posts)although to be fair a few weeks ago I wouldn't have caught it either. We discussed the word "sucks" and a few others on another forum (not political) and I had no idea the origin of the word was homophobic. Now that it's been pointed out it seems so obvious.

(2,866 posts)and came closing time they would always give me a free bag of sandwiches and filets that weren't sold before closing. They knew my dogs loved them as I did. Man, my dog ate well. But that was just a single person. Not corporate.

(1,277 posts)Their chicken sandwich was delicious back in the day and it was a legitimate meal. Now it more closely resembles a slider.
Not my problem anymore after this summer. I'll never darken the door again.
