General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDU needs a "Trash Talk Forum" where stuff like this can be posted
so we know WTF the new lies are that are being bandied about on FOX, et. al.
There are numerous posts on DU today URGING OBAMA to focus on Sensata
as a case-in-point of how Rmoney is Mr. Outsourcing American Jobs to China,
but if there is ANY truth to the claims re: Obama's pension funds, then that
needs to be dealt with somehow, PRIOR to bring up Sensata on campaign
trail.. or else it becomes "he said she said' and goes nowhere.

Urging Obama to bring up Sensata during debates, etc. as a Dem "Oct. Surprise",
with no mention of Obama's pension issues, which I have been trying to remedy.

(10,749 posts)No individual has control over what stocks are held by a retirement fund, mutual fund, etc. Sure, any one, or any group of people, can raise awareness of certain objectionable holdings, and then it's up to the fund to modify its investment decisions accordingly. This was the case during Apartheid with funds holding shares in South African companies. In some cases it was politically expedient to alter holdings.
And if a particular fund holds shares in companies you disapprove of, and the fund is unwilling to modify its holdings, then you can choose to invest elsewhere, as long as you have control over your investment. If you're a retiree, you don't have that choice. I challenge anyone with a mutual fund or a pension to name the companies in which that fund is invested. And that goes for the President.
In short, this is a distraction. Nothing more. And it shouldn't stop the President from bringing up Sensata if that is a desirable tactical move.

(19,326 posts)Not saying Obama shouldn't bring up Sensata, just that these kinds
of clarifying details you mention needs to be "at the ready" because
we already KNOW what the ReThugs "come-back" will be.

(8,694 posts)It's only a blog post written by Michelle Malkin's pal "Soopermexican" who are deliberately spreading it like a virus to make Mitt immune to the whole Sensata story. You are doing their work for them!
To quote Queen Anne: Stop it!

(19,326 posts)Yes, this is clearly a hit piece on Obama, which Team Obama and DU
peeps NEED TO BE AWARE IS OUT THERE... before putting a lot of
eggs in the Sensata issue basket.
NOT that Sensata shouldn't be addressed or brought up, but that in
doing so, Team Obama needs to ALREADY KNOW what the GOP
"come back" is going to be, i.e. IL pension; and be ready for it too.
Is that distinction not clear in my posts? If not, I hope this helps.

(19,326 posts)but you do have an oblique counter-point, which
I suppose does have some merit.
MY POINT: putting on DU TOS blinders renders us
blind to what the liars are saying, and doesn't fully
acknowledge the full range of discourse.
Don't get me wrong. I've been on DU for way
longer than post-count infers, under other handles,
which became obsolete; and so I've seen the DU
wars with Trolls of all types, and understand the
need for clear boundaries with what is tolerated.
That said, I still think my point has some merit,
and a "Trash Talk Forum" would be one way of
consciously expanding our frame of reference to
include what kind of lies are being peddled on
FOX, or how they are spinning an issue against
Dems.
Don't want to see what FOX "news" is peddling?
Then don't double click on the Trash Talk Forum..
no problem.
