How do I know it was a Republican?
He sped up to hit the bird.

(45,274 posts)"peasant hunting" into my post but gave it up as too big an intellectual investment for the mildly humorous payoff.

(39,961 posts)Thankfully, I wasn't going very fast. It landed right in the middle of the road, and I couldn't stop in time. I felt terrible

(45,274 posts)I have a fair toll of road kills behind me but never like that. I've hit several skunks (!), a raccoon or 2, "nudged" a deer once, had a wild turkey fly into my grille once, flattened any number of erratic squirrels that chose me as their means of suicide, etc., but I never hit anything with a vehicle that I could avoid.

(920 posts)This isn't totally unusual here in Maine. It still p*sses me off to no end. Most of time, the animal makes it, but we once saw someone catch a squirrel--my son who is only 8 now, was in the car and was both confused and upset as we pulled over to see if there was anything to be done. We obviously kept him in the car, but I went over and finished it because it was suffering. There is no way to explain that kind of evil to a young child.

(45,274 posts)which is when he sped up.
While I take your point about Cheney, in reality pheasants (like squirrels) are distressingly stupid & easy to kill with a car.
