#Sensata tweets claiming that President Obama has shares
and is profiting from outsourcing jobs from China. Just FYI...
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/10/us/politics/as-romney-repeats-trade-message-bain-maintains-china-ties.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
For many sophisticated and wealthy investors, as well as for ordinary workers invested in pension funds, China is a part of any diversified investment strategy. President Obama, a former Illinois state senator, has as much as $100,000 in a state retirement plan that contains shares of Sensata Technologies, the same auto parts company controlled by Bain that is closing its Illinois factory.

1. Big difference between that being part of his portfolio that he probably doesn't even know about
|
and being the co-founder and former CEO of the company that created the business model for this round of outsourcing.

It's nice to know what's happening on the right and what they're pushing so we can adjust the message if need be.

4. This, exactly
|
Individuals do not have say in how their state pensions are invested. Most don't even know the details of those investments.
And President Obama isn't invested in Bain, the company making the decision to outsource. Apples to oranges. Stupid false equivalency. |

15. Very true, but let's hope the unwashed masses understand that difference.
|
Lots of not-so-bright people out there who could be easily fooled into thinking Obama and Willard are the same on this issue.
It's obvious that the right wingers are nervous about this because they're trying to push the "Obama did it too!" talking point. |

6. Obama does, as a State Pensioner, BUT...
|
Last edited Mon Oct 15, 2012, 12:09 PM USA/ET - Edit history (3) Illinois state employees are invested (with their pension fund) in Sensata, and the President served in Illinois as a state senator.
BUT... We're NOT telling folks to divest from the company... which is the only thing President Obama could possibly do, owning so little interest in the company. Divesting from the company is, in fact, the LAST thing we want to see. We want the plant in Freeport to stay in Illinois and remain a profitable American company. President Obama's stake in the company is probably less than 1% of 1%, while Mitt Romney controls a full 51%. That's why we're badgering the Massachusetts Governor instead of the former Illinois state senator.

Which is why this doesn't do a lot for me as an issue to be used against Romney. The Republicans will simply say Obama owns some too, and low info people would view it as a wash.

8. They're faulting the pension for investing in an Illinois company?
|
That was successful and employed Illinois workers BEFORE Bain decided to outsource the jobs to China?
What the hell kind of argument do they think they're making here? Faulting the pension for investing in a company that employed its citizens? And the attempt to tie Obama to the decision to profit by outsourcing the jobs is pitiful. Please people, we all know that this kind of shit is what made Romney his millions. Stop trying to deflect his sins on others. |

Hahaha! He didn't pick those shares of Sensata, if that's the case. Really, really lame.

This is why we have to get on their case about it.
We are ahead of the Narrative...don't let them win by default. Obama made no decision, or likely even knew the Pension Fund bought and owned the shares. |
