Oct. 18 - Obama to make second 'Daily Show' appearance since taking office

Obama to make second 'Daily Show' appearance since taking office
By Daniel Strauss - 10/12/12 04:22 PM ET

President Obama will appear as a guest on the "Daily Show" on Oct. 18.

The appearance, which Comedy Central announced Friday, will be Obama's second since he took office. His first appearance was on Oct. 27, 2010.

Some viewers were surprised with the host Jon Stewart's tough questioning of Obama during his first appearance on the show as a sitting president. Stewart pressed Obama on a number of topics Democrats had recently been criticizing the president on, like healthcare and repealing the military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy. But the White House deemed the appearance a "success."

"Our viewpoint is that when the president gets to talk about what he's done and sit through what people may or may not have heard, it's a positive benefit," then-White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in 2010.

"So I would think of it as a success."
