so that the lazy masses will have an incentive to work to improve themselves or starve. Too many entitlements and security supposedly makes them lazy. Why doesn’t the same philosophy hold true for the aristocracy? Tax them vigorously so it gives them an incentive to work harder and create businesses to make enough money to stay rich instead of just living off their investments like Romney.

Or do they think the aristocracy is genetically superior for having made themselves rich and doesn’t need incentives?

the reality is that there are many policy tools and many problems going on at the same time.
sometimes one particular policy measure works brilliantly, other times it fails.

you actually have to diagnose the relevant problems, then choose the appropriate tools to use.

tax cuts for the wealthy can help the economy (including creating jobs) IF the problem is that there's a shortage of investment capital and there is pent-up demand AND idle resources AND the current tax rates are actually too high. THEN, lowering top tax rates might generate more investment money for startups and expansions to take advantage of the idle resources to satisfy the pent-up demand.

when shrub launched his wacky tax cuts, there was NO economic reason whatsoever to support it. tax cuts are the right tool to solve some problems, but the economy at that time was (and remains) completely wrong for that particular policy tool.

of course, if you're looking for a media/politics answer, then of course the shrub tax cuts DID work, silly! the economy collapsed beacause of democrats in congress and clinton's slick willie. and jimmy carter, somehow, i'm sure. shrub's tax cuts kept things from being EVEN WORSE!

Tax cuts DID work, very briefly, under St. Ronnie and the Repugs have been trying to catch that magic fairy dust ever since.
If tax cuts for the rich always resulted in jobs created we'd be seeing 0% unemployment right now.

Today, that is worth about one hour's worth of wages, at minimum wage.
