SF 49ers QB Alex Smith on meeting President Obama: ‘Very cool, huge honor’

Alex Smith’s sprained middle finger on his throwing hand hasn’t prevented him from shaking hands … with the leader of the free world.

On Monday, Smith and tight end Vernon Davis attended a fund-raising dinner in San Francisco for Barack Obama. Smith said he didn’t discuss national security with the President.

“He talked ball the whole time,” Smith said. “Seemed very down-to-earth. Knew what was going on with (the 49ers). Talked a lot about us – the game on Sunday. Our schedule ahead. He knew we were playing the Bears.”
