Paul Defends Mitt For Gaffe, Time Spent At Bain

Paul Defends Mitt For Gaffe, Time Spent At Bain

Ron Paul has differentiated himself from his Republican rivals again, this time by opting not to join the chorus that is relentlessly attacking Mitt Romney. While Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry have been more than eager to assail Romney for his much-publicized “fire people” gaffe and time spent at Bain Capital, Paul has thrown the GOP frontrunner a life raft.

According to CNN, Paul decried Romney’s critics for “unfairly attacking” the former Massachusetts governor for remarks that were taken out of context. Paul added that those who are criticizing Romney for his time at the venture capital company “don’t understand” the free market.

19. Except that it's not a "free" market. The system is rigged in favor of big businesses like Bain.

Maybe Ron Paul doesn't understand that.

I'm not sure Newt will get one.

4. And this is why David Sirota is so wrong about Paul

He lists among Paul's progressive virtues the value of being "against corporate welfare." Well, he's not against it because he thinks unbridled corporate power is unhealthy for the country and hurts people. It's because he wants the true beauty and valor of his cherished free market to shine strong on its own, like some mighty Atlas (and also because he doesn't want the government giving welfare to anyone, especially the poor or disabled).

12. I think

"I don't know why anybody would be confused about this"

...it has to do with the fact that some so-called progressives are trying to convince people that a RW libertarian, fascist, corporate tool has some "progressive" views.

How will St Paul's supporters react? Will they continue to lay into Romney, or echo Fearless Leader's sentiment? I'm curious to see.

17. Hypocrisy. Paul has attacked all of Romney's critics unfairly at some point

Makes you wonder what Romney has done to earn Paul's allegiance, both in attacking his rivals and defending him from their attacks.

26. Paul's only chance is to oust the rest of the field, going head on with Romney.

Romney can't get the teabagger vote but Paul thinks he can.

20. Might have more credibility if he would extend the same

courtesy to the president, when his fellow contenders tell lies and misquote or misinterpret quotes about him.

Although it is consistent with his worship of the mythical "free market". I would imagine that if you asked Paul, he would be willing to state that you should be able to fire people from your company for being black, for showing up late, or for whatever else you might desire. Its your company, after all.

I think Paul is the one who may not understand. We get the "Free Market". We also understand that it is a myth, an impossibility, given human nature it would devolve into tyranny of one sort or another. But even if we did not have that as a baseline, we have decided to care about other people, thus making it impossible for us to support a system that even in its most idealistic form would see many of them suffer and die for the sake of other people retaining more rights to property.

25. Have lost all respect for this man

In 2006 he was the only republican to vote against helping Katrina victims, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/08/AR2006070800966_pf.html

"Is bailing out people that chose to live on the coastline a proper function of the federal government?" he asks. "Why do people in Arizona have to be robbed in order to support the people on the coast?" RP

Last year when a vote was held to end big oil subsidies he voted against it. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/03/01/951571/-House-GOP-votes-unanimously-to-protect-big-oil-subsidies

(Roll call) http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/roll153.xml

He says one thing a does another..typical
