"Cheat sheet" is a loser

We really need to drop this. Here's why:

1) It doesn't matter because the debate doesn't matter;

2) The President really was awful; crying "cheat sheet" makes us look like sore losers;

3) Romney is actually a better all-around debater than Obama, as was clear from the primaries;

But more than anything else...

4) On a day that the GOP looks asinine for ascribing the job numbers to a conspiracy, we risk losing the moral high ground by putting on our own tinfoil and treating a Youtube clip like it's the Zapruder film.

I don't disagree that the GOP is despicable and Romney would have no problem with cheating. I just think we can win this thing on its merits, and that crying "cheater" -- something we'll never, ever prove -- actually weakens us.

1. big bird is a loser

Makes us look like we're "clinging" to something trivial.

Cheat sheet gate is fun and entertaining but it won't go anywhere.

5. Exactly the opposite

I think the arguement to drop cheatgate is reasonable, though I disagree. But no way on Big Bird. That one is big. It trended bigtime on twitter, and made headlines. No way we should drop that.

18. Big Bird is a symbol of the bankruptcy of Romney's ideas

To cut deficits he highlights cutting PBS funding? As the President said in Denver, “We didn’t know that Big Bird was driving the federal deficit.”

President Obama doesn't seem to think Big Bird is a loser.

2. I completely disagree.

If there is one thing this country cannot stand, it is a cheater. Ask Sammy Sosa, ask Bill Belichick, hell even Lance Armstrong. We as a people have no love for cheaters. I say keep it up.

is sure hurtin' because of that isn't he?

I mean before the scandal he was the head coach of the New England Patriots and after all of it shook out he's only the coach of the New England Patriots. Poor bastard, I think the public was too hard on him. I hope his descendants can shake off the shame.

39. Really not the point

The post I was replying to mentioned that American's can't stand cheaters.

Bill Belichick has faced no real blowback from the spygate scandal. He apologized, basically just to Robert Kraft, and paid his fine with money he pulled out of the ashtray in his car and went on with his life.

If the Patriots fired him today he'd be coaching in the NFL next week and the city where he wound up would still be buying tickets and jerseys.

3. I agree but for a different reason

The tape is fuzzy and leaves room for doubt as to whether it was a handkerchief or paper. That is, the evidence is doubtful, so the matter should be dropped.

6. I also think it's just a handkerchief

And it probably could never be proven otherwise, so even if Romney did cheat, it might as well just be a handkerchief.

And we don't want anything to take anything away from the flourish of trumpets and release of balloons that should accompany the jobs report.

8. Yep

We'll never prove it, which just makes us look like whiners. It's a messaging truism that a single, clear narrative is much more effective than multiple narratives. We have our narrative: Mitt lied. It's simple and provable. "Mitt cheated" just muddies the waters.

9. It is a loser, but it's sexy.

Romney erased his campaign Wednesday. We are left to take it on faith that he will increase wages, eliminate unemployment, balance the budget and never raise taxes. He will repeal Dodd-Frank and replace it with ... transparency? All of that though, isn't sexy. He might have been working from notes and that's a game changer, or something.

11. Yes let's not look silly

The one thing the Zapruder film showed was that there were NO Secret Service guys on the Presidents car, but just lets ignore it. It makes us look silly after all. Let's not blame any secret service guys for their fuck up, and while were at it, let's just not bring it up. Makes us look silly. It's just the President after all.

Same with 9/11. Lets not wonder how fire takes down buildings at 10 stories a second without resistance. Makes us look silly after all. Better to just nod along with the rest of the sheep and accept it. Nothing to see here. I am sooooooo tired of this shit.

And last but not least, the 2000 election. Let's not make a big stink over having an election stolen from us. It would make us look like whiners. We are acting like Obama being afraid of being called an angry black man. Fuck that.

12. "We" need to drop it?

Okay, sure. You have a point. David Pakman said the same thing on what looked like a video he did when he woke up this morning.

But. . . there's no harm in reveling in the reporting. It's being reported on network news. If they want to report it, fine. If other networks pick it up and run with it, that's fine, too. As long as OFA leaves it alone and the various PACs keep it out of the ads, I have no problem with this going viral. Sure, it's a distraction, but as long as the party and the campaign stay out of it, the Romney campaign can't toss it back in their faces. In the same way that the press is fact-checking the debate and forcing Romney, for example, to apologize on Fox for his 47% remakr, instead of doing so in front of an audience of 67 milllion, The President and the campaign remains above the fray. And if they are asked for comment, they can say, in their special way, that they are certainly certain that Mr. Romney would not do the same sort of thing Palin did during her campaign. No way, no how. Next question.

to compensate for the altitude.

So not only did he have the answers to all the possible questions written down, he had more red blood cells than Obama.

Rmoney seemed to have it all memorized and if it was a cheat sheet, he'd have relied on it at some point.

Rmoney is rich and has better methods of cheating if he wanted to - like a slim chip where Bushitler had that electrode on his back.

The video clips tell the story, tell the truth.

You and others of your ilk can try to tell Americans that their "eyes are lying" to them. But that crap don't float. Everyone can plainly see Romney (R) cheating. And everyone who tries to blow it off is immediately recognized as an OCCULTIST (R) OR OBFUSCATOR (R)

34. Romney -- arrogant bully

The one thing that people missed as a cheat was that Mitt Romney bullied the moderator. In a high-school debate such would lead at the least to a warning, followed by a loss of points, and perhaps to a loss by forfeit.

He lied, as shown in his swallowing and the at-times robotic cadence of his speech.

37. Why did he need a hanky?

Did anyone see him use it? And just because Obama wasn't a DICK in the debate doesn't mean he did horrible. Quite the contrary. If Obama lost a lot of support, and from what the polls tell us taken after the debate that that isn't the case by a long shot, then there might be some validity. I don't want to see the President get into a tit-for-tat zinger competition. He's the leader of the country. He was statesmanlike. He wasn't going to play in the mud. Romnuts is paying for it now.

Quit playing checkers. That's what rednecks do.

38. It's a loser if we were to go birther-conspiracy theory

on it. That would make us as bad as the birthers.

But if some scrutiny led to proof that Romney used cheat notes, then I'd say it becomes a winner and would take back much of whatever he gained from the debate.

In the interim, given how it looked on the video and with Romney's track record of being dishonest with things he says, asking the question seems fair.
