"Big Bird" has been trending on Twitter all night.
We knew going into this that the media would proclaim Romney the big winner. Romney has spent countless hours preparing for this while our President has had to fit debate prep in between running the country. But, when all is said and done...people are talking about Romney's stupid Big Bird comment.
You just never know what the American people will jump on after a debate. There are comments from debates that are now considered "classics" or "game-changers" but they weren't always immediately apparent right after the debates. These were the things that the American people seized upon and talked about that sometimes ended up rewriting the post-debate analysis. Mitt lied. Mitt made a few gaffs. Hell, he practically called his five sons liars! (I guess it runs in the family.) He had that repulsive smirk on his face the whole time. Don't let the pundits frame this. Ridicule the Big Bird comment, bring up the lies, the smirk, the obsessive practice compared to the man who doesn't have the leisure to practice for months. If nothing else, just take a deep breath and have a chuckle reading all the Big Bird tweets... https://twitter.com/i/#!/search/?q=%22Big+Bird%22&src=tren

I got sick of listening to all the pundits praising that repulsive liar so I checked out Twitter expecting the worst and it was just exploding with Big Bird tweets.

4. Need a cartoon of Romney shooting Big Bird

5. Yeah, this was so predictable.
|
I knew Obama would do ok but Romney would be on top of his game and the media would spin it as a huge win and a game changer blah blah blah. This was NOT a game changer. I bet you could ask a thousand people what stood out for them and no one could think of a single significant line-except the big bird line. I'm not talking zingers either, just nothing substantive or earth shattering that would make someone say "Wow, I really want to vote for Romney now. He has such a brilliant plan."
I hate the football team aspect of politics and debates exemplify the worst of that. Mitt's a good liar. So what? We knew that going in. I'm not even disappointed that the President didn't attack him more for the lies. It's easy to play Monday morning quarterback but that strategy could have been disastrous and then we'd all be going "On no! Why didn't Obama play it cool? All he had to do was show up and act Presidential. This is terrible. Oh the humanity!" Yep, everything, even the DU drama, was totally predictable. |

Mitt Romney's pledge to cut funding to PBS, however, really hit a nerve with viewers, who chimed in nearly instantly on Twitter. (You can see the video clip of Mitt Romney vowing to cut federal funding to PBS below.)It only took a few minutes for a spoof Big Bird account appeared: @FiredBigBird. As I type this, Fired Big Bird has surpassed 12,000 followers; the account will have reached even more by the time you read this. Here are some of Fired Big Bird's best tweets.Big Bird@FiredBigBird http://www.examiner.com/article/the-best-of-fired-big-bird-twitter-reactions-to-october-3-presidential-debate |

9. And in all the talk about Big Bird, let's not forget the human consequences
|
of basically shutting down a major broadcasting outlet. Reposted from another thread on this topic:
And let's not forget, PBS also employs thousands of people, myself included. Okay, let me paint you the picture from the inside: if PBS loses government funding, many local PBS content-creator stations will become pass-throughs due to lack of funds. A pass-through station produces no content; it's only employees are several master control operators. an executive overseeing the operation, and probably an on-call engineer or two in case something breaks. What that means is essentially that the entire production crew, and the support structure upstairs (i.e., underwriters, executive producers, producers, directors, engineers, etc.) will be put out of work. Because there's no in-house productions, there is no community interaction, no community-centered programming, community events, community awareness... the local voices are lost and PBS and Public Access are the only stations that provide that kind of community-based content aside from 30-minute local news (and because of PBS's pedigree, we have resources and access that Public Access couldn't dream of getting). When Romney says he's willing to cut off PBS, what he's essentially saying is that he's willing to put thousands of people out of work. Wronmey is from Bizarro World where cutting taxes reduces the deficit and where firing people creates employment. |

Wasn't it kind of stupid to state he would cut PBS while on PBS with Jim Lerher? |

As liberals we have to remember, pundits are never on our side. They only seem to be when to not be would not allow for enough controversy.
