Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Wed Oct 3, 2012, 10:30 PM

I have never seen as many critical low class criticisms of a Dem nominee on DU

as I have seen this evening.

For shame. This is a debate. This is not a graduation with beach balls and confetti. This is not a campaign stop or stump. This is not a boxing ring, an NFL game or even a family argument. This is a sitting President who has to maintain a presidential persona even as he is confronted by a no account smirking no nothing rich white guy WHO may I remind all of you, thinks that 47% of us are dirt. That's right, Romney thinks that you are I are dirt.

Can you say that about Obama? Do you truly think he believes that Americans are dirt?

I'm sorry that those of you who bought into the media hype are somehow confused about the role of a sitting president during a debate. This was not meant to be an event in which one gladiator kills another. And really? Let's get real. ALL of our political processes may have become more sanitized but that IS NOT the fault of this president.

SO there you go. Tear up or tear me up. But be sure to grow up and vote.

3. Yeah? Well I think YOUR op is shameful.

No, it's not a gladiatorial event, but it is a debate. There will be a perceived winner and a perceived loser. No one has said that the President thinks anyone is dirt. There have been criticisms of his debate performance. And that, honey, is perfectly legitimate.

17. That's not quite it.

It seems to me that lots of people think that ignoring the debate rules, and stomping all over everyone like a big fucking bully is "winning". I keep reading about how much more aggressive Romney was, blah, blah, blah... Yet, everyone ignores the fact that he went outside the damn rules, and they're all letting him get away with it. Why bother having debate rules when you are going to let one of the debaters ignore them--and then turn around and bash the other guy for staying within the rules???

35. And that's true. Its hard to find those pockets of civility in America today.

And when it is encountered, people view it as a weakness. I will point out also, that while Millard had the option of primping all damn day, Syria killed people in Turkey, Turkey fired back and that I think that just might mean we have some serious shit about to happen.

22. Yes. We're talking incredibly high stakes here. Four more years of

directing the economic recovery, healthcare, social security, wars, possible SCOTUS appointments, and so on. We need a fired up candidate to bring along fired up voters to vote for him and down ticket. We can't afford for the other guys to get that fire and those down ticket votes.

Every moment counts.

Provided you can provide the substance to your point of view that Obama, and not Rmoney, gave to the audience this evening.

41. Obama was far too passive

He let lie after lie go by unchallenged time and time again. While you can be rightfully outraged that Romney lied repeatedly, and you can say it is good Obama stayed Presidential, that fact that he let the lies go without refuting them gives them legitimacy with voters who do not know better.

The snap polls are are agreeing with this, unfortunately.

Obama can and will get the momentum back, but this was not a good night for him.
