Excellent piece on voting machine concerns on CBS 4 Miami tonight.

CBS4 Investigates: Does Your Vote Count?

Ion Sancho is a man on a mission. Just weeks from the presidential election, one of the most veteran election supervisors in the state of Florida, thinks there’s plenty for him and his colleagues to lose sleep over.

What keeps him awake at night? Whether you can trust the machine you will be voting on.

“We still have not secured the process to ensure that that machine has read that ballot correctly and it is 100 percent accurate. Because it is wrong to assume that the machines are always right. They’re not, ” Sancho tells CBS4 Chief Investigator Michele Gillen.

More at the link- and Michele, who did a terrific job, promises that there is more to come.

8. In Florida we already do use paper ballots. It is the counting by machine that's the problem.

The paper ballots are counted by optical scan machines.

9. Correct- and the machines that do the counting are owned by corporations with an agenda

And they do not allow anyone access to any of the internal source codes who is not an employee so there is no way to verify if the machine count matches the voter's intent.

3. First, the voting process should not be in private hands.

Especially one party's greedy, corrupt hands. Privatization has long been a rallying cry, and policy, for repigs. "Gubmint too spensive," they bleat. I'd love to see a comparison of before/after privatization, which seems to exclusively favor the Greedy Old Pigs.

If anything is vitally important to the USA, it's voting, and if there's any real question, it needs to be examined thoroughly, but the privates will do anything to prevent that.

Fuck them. Make them honest.

10. Happy that you sent this to your daughter.

Another thing you may want to check out is http://www.stealingamericathemovie.org/ - great film by Dorothy Fadiman about electronic voting machines and the dangers of having machines count your vote.

5. After the election I hope someone checks to see ...

How many of the machine voting districts had a majority of Repubican votes.

If there is cheating going on its likely that an unstatistical amount will have turned right.

6. What other reason could there be for switching registrations from D to R

other than covering up planned election machine fraud?
