Jesus used to control weather, disease, and crops. But those things have been delegated to the Weather Channel, insurance companies and Monsanto, respectively.

Sports keeps him busy though. Beauty pageants are a form of sports competition.

4. When I was about 12 I heard a member of our congregation remark that the previous day's improbable

Washington State victory was probably a result of the prayer schedule of the quarterback who was thought to be a devout and pious person.

That single comment ignited a voice in me that always questioned how valid congregational members theology was.

First what kind of a God would be interested in such a transient bunch of fluff when a couple of decades earlier he couldn't get himself out of bed to sabotage a few valves in Poland to stop the mass executions at Auchwitz.

But if you stayed on point with her response and you really did believe that then how do you consider the fact that Washington State was routinely beaten up by every club in the Pac 8, and even by the second string of UCLA and USC who would rotate their subs in after halftime. Either Jehovah was incompetent, lazy or as the facts have continued to show with this years Republican field, Jehovah is a jokester.

6. Kind of Un-Related, but related in what I learned in Sunday School...

When I was going to school in my little, small town in Vermont, we were taught to be respectful of all families and what not.. I guess it would have been the early 90's, when a lesbian couple moved into town and the one mother's children started going to our school. We all knew they were lesbians... It wasn't some hidden thing and I lived in a small, small town (like 300 people small).

Anyway, one weekend I overheard the grown-ups gossiping about the "party" out by their home (basically there were more than 5 cars present and on their corner, any bit of traffic going around was a bit hazardous), anyway, the rumor was that it was a wedding celebration that was going on. Now, me being taught that people who live with one another in that manner are supposed to be married or they are living in sin, and also being taught that different families are just fine, made the shocking point to the grown-ups around me, that I couldn't believe they were living in sin and that they should have been married before living together; especially, with children in the home.

Silly little me was more concerned about their morality of living un-married and in sin against God, than the fact that 2 women were marrying one another. I guess the statement completely shocked the grown-up types because they didn't really have any explanation as to why it was wrong for the two women living as a couple to not be married....

Of course, now I know that the wedding ceremony was basically just an event for themselves and their family because legally, the Law would not recognize their marriage as valid. How can we actually teach our children tolerance, and at the same time, expect them to understand why it is that people who love one another and are a family cannot actually be a family?

And the Republicans speaking on the topic of Gay people marrying one another sound like they are from the stone age. They sound so out of touch, bigoted, and stupid. How can anyone support them.. Then again, I believe our President is wrong in his assertion that gay's should not have equality of marriage under the law. The views on this subject have changed.... The military has opened up is service, and we still have a military and swarms of military personnel are not exiting their service to their country or picketing the White House over being able to know someone is Gay and that they cannot be thrown out of the military because of that.... Its not like they weren't serving before, now they are doing so without having to lie.

And if people think about Marriage that 2 people contractually enter into under State Law and are allowed the protections of Marriage with the contract, then they really don't object.... When they think about having to make their church perform the ceremony (which is the argument that the pugs use to divide and cause hate), then they get a bit more bent out of shape (mainly because that church has decided to teach hate, rather than love and decide that God has made an imperfection by creating a Gay person--Honestly, how do you choose to be gay or straight? you don't its just something you figure out when hormones start surging and causing all kinds of odd things like breasts, hair, periods, voice changes, pimples....

And as for the original subject, I was taught that God is within you... He (She)/ IT is a part of the light and the soul of your life. God also walks beside you, never leaving you alone. The whole Blessed Trinity. Father, Son, Holy Ghost... I'm much more spiritual and less of a Father says, do as I say or punishment comes your way type of person... However, I do feel its comforting to believe that the energy we have as souls are connected to one another independently and dependently with all life on this planet. Its less about being granted favor, but rather the opportunity to learn, live and love one another. Which is why our current way of living is so vexing and so many people are depressed. We are given life and have interests and talents and like to live amongst one another in a sharing communal manner... The psychopaths who have gained the "riches" and "power" have created a world in which most of us find revolting. Some people find the way to deal with the entrapment and confinement by hating and finding small relief in feeling they are somehow "better" than another in a decisive manner so that they can deal with the inconsistencies of natural order and the way society has been co-opted in a way that feels akin to slavish like conditions.. some enduring worse forms of it than others.
