(6,109 posts)2. No. they pay the ad service on per click and/or fee for service basis.
DU probably gets paid per impression, or for each ad that is served regardless of clicks. But, the more clicks the more they pay the ad service.
My guess, as this is a typical business model for online ad agencies.

It depends on the agreement they have with the ad distributor who probably has a variety of ads that are put on various websites.

My company has MANY sites (100s) and advertises on MANY sites (1000s). It used to be pay-per-1000-clicks. Just about every agreement now is pay-per-purchase. So you have to click, then continue and join or buy.
