I just got unfriended by a game mate on FB after getting sick of her posting of bigoted and hyperpatriotic posts tinged with Jesus is coming if we can only blow up the Middle East fast enough comments. In addition her belittling of people who she considers unworthy of support by society and particularly her tax dollars got to be too disgusting for words. Almost. Ugh! Anyway, I unloaded on her this morning and pointed out that the opinions she expressed were among the most obscenely unchristian words to be uttered by conservatives and that anyone of us may find ourselves in need of some type of help at some time in life. She appears to be stuck on Reagan's "welfare queens" characterization of people in need and considers herself to be asked to contribute tax dollars to pay other people's mortgages and buy them meals at restaurants. Today the straw that broke it for me was graphic from a page called "Conservative Women Rock!".
She speedily deleted my posts and then unfriended me. Okay by me. I am just sick of the way these people go unchallenged in their binary thinking in which there is no room for the notion that perhaps they are perhaps one situation away from needing help too. Hadn't intended to start the day out in full battle mode.

(21,078 posts)and now I can count them on one hand. I'm better off for it, and this includes family members. I know when I open mail I'm not going to be insulted or get that tight knot in my stomach from reading their awful bigotry. Enough is enough is good for ya...

(22,541 posts)you had to go through that vile stuff. The kind of vile thoughts that are in people's minds is just stunning.
The thing is, we would never have known what they were really like if Obama hadn't been elected. We would've gone along thinking everyone was nice and kind and good.
In a way I'm really glad that now we know what has been there under the surface all along. It has forced us to accept that bigotry of all kinds is alive and well in all classes, all educational levels.

(19,841 posts)why take abuse? Abuse doesn't cement a friendship--it destroys it. If you put up with people whose attitudes are so far from yours as to cause disgust--then WHY??? That's masochism. Unhealthy.
People who pelt "friends" all the time with their verbal feces need to be stopped.
to the OP
Ya done good

(37,364 posts)I've tolerated a wide range of opinion, but I refuse to be silent in the face of vile bigotry. There is disagreement and then there is a point at which silence implies assent.

(9,681 posts)he unfriended me, but since I commented in the thread, I can still see it until I "unfollow" it. He is still ranting and posting all kinds of crap even though I can't respond.I find this hilarious and kind of sad at the same time.
