Rumor-mongering surrounds Chris Stevens’ death

Rumor-mongering surrounds Chris Stevens’ death

Right-wing blogs continue to speculate about the ambassador's demise

BY JILLIAN RAYFIELD

-snip-

Amid the questions about Stevens’ last minutes, there is another rather vile peripheral debate occurring in the right-wing blogosphere. Michelangelo Signorile from the Huffington Post sums up the various rumors:

1) Ambassador Christopher Stevens was gay; 2) that the Obama administration is responsible for his death because it had the supposedly terrible judgment to send a gay man to an Islamic country, or even did it as an intentional provocation, and; 3) that Stevens’ corpse was dragged outside and sodomized by an angry mob because that’s what Muslims do — they have sex with the dead bodies of gay men.

The gay rumors seem to have originated on Hillbuzz.com, the website of Kevin DuJan, who also believes that President Obama is gay. DuJan uses the very, very shaky sourcing of a “Serbian consulate employee identified himself to me as ‘Dino’ and wouldn’t give me any more of a name than that, but told me it was no secret that Chris Stevens was gay and that ‘it was stupid to send him to Libya as the ambassador when he was a known homosexual.’”

The story was picked up by a number of right-wing blogs, including Breitbart.com, which offers this explanation for why Stevens being gay would be at all relevant: “It just seems like one more way the Obama administration needlessly enraged the passions of protesters in that part of the world.” A blogger for the Examiner even speculates that Stevens was sent by Hillary Clinton as an “intentional provocation” to Libya.

1. Who gives a damn if he were gay or not. No one should. The consulate wasn't attacked due to

homophobic hate.

6. So, are you advocating a "shhh, shhh, shhh

we don't care what the right wing says" position or, are you jumping on a pedestal of self righteousness to chastise me because I'm trying to inform other Dems what the wing nuts are saying about the Ambassador and the President?

10. Do as you please but IMO those who spread rumors belong to the group that believe you can pick up a

turd by its clean end.

Each person has a right to her/his own opinion but not their own facts as Daniel Moynihan said.

I understand rumors to mean something other than facts.

Have a great day

3. Ambassador Stevens served in Jerusalem, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt and Libya.

Regarding his sexuality and life there are two main options:

He was straight and had a long, distingished career in the Middle East. He served with honor and died in the line of duty.

He was gay and had a long, distingished career in the Middle East. He served with honor and died in the line of duty.

5. Hillbuzz is such a disgusting site.

Kevin DuJan is really messed up in the head. I have read a few posts of his and the slime from them just stuck with me a long time.

And the intentional provocation accusation is horrific. There is no evidence the man was gay and if there was, so what.

8. Why is the RW fretting over whether the Obama administration

"needlessly enraged the passions of protesters in that part of the world"?? These are the same people who CHEERED enraging those passions with a film that denigrates Islam.

I am so confused. Does the RW hate Islam and Middle Easterners, or doesn't it? More flip-flopping, it looks like. Rmoney is probably the one behind this meme, since flip-flopping is all he know how to do (when he's not insulting and dissing half the US).
