From the Facebook status of a friend who is a musician in LA and has worked with Randy:
Just got an update about Randy Newman's forthcoming new recording, "I'm Dreaming of a White President." He's going to donate all proceeds from it to a group challenging the spate of voter suppression laws various GOP-controlled state legislatures have passed. Mr. Newman and friends are currently working on a video and are planning to release it soon. When they do, you can bet I'll throw it up here, pronto. Stay tuned...

OP
Because I've been a Randy Newman fan since the 60s and that is my least favorite song of his.

I like both versions, too. Randy's is more "folk" and Neville's more R&B, but they both bring tears!

That Jonah Edelman video is appalling. His mom is one of my sheroes. I once stood in line for an hour to get a picture with her. I hope she's embarrassed.

I don't think he likes it much either. I saw him in concert once and someone in the audience yelled "Short People" as a request and he said "NO" and didn't play it. LOL
Here's a better choice, and he rarely plays this one anymore:

(15,445 posts)7. Randy is an under-rated "American original" treasure.
Here's one of his best (used as a soundtrack to Katrina in 2005). His works will live on long after he's gone--classics.
ETA: Can't wait for his new composition!

I also LOVE Aaron Neville's cover of this:
