LOL! Randy Newman wrote a new song - "I'm Dreaming of a White President"

From the Facebook status of a friend who is a musician in LA and has worked with Randy:

Just got an update about Randy Newman's forthcoming new recording, "I'm Dreaming of a White President." He's going to donate all proceeds from it to a group challenging the spate of voter suppression laws various GOP-controlled state legislatures have passed. Mr. Newman and friends are currently working on a video and are planning to release it soon. When they do, you can bet I'll throw it up here, pronto. Stay tuned...

3. Love Ry Cooder! That's hilarious.

That Jonah Edelman video is appalling. His mom is one of my sheroes. I once stood in line for an hour to get a picture with her. I hope she's embarrassed.

2. How could you post Randy Newman songs and NOT post this?

4. Because I've been a Randy Newman fan since the 60s and that is my least favorite song of his.

I don't think he likes it much either. I saw him in concert once and someone in the audience yelled "Short People" as a request and he said "NO" and didn't play it. LOL

Here's a better choice, and he rarely plays this one anymore:

12. I heard him interviewed once and he said this was HIS favorite:

I've always loved this one. Other than his political stuff, it's my favorite:

8. Randy is a real "patriot" and expresses it through music.

7. Randy is an under-rated "American original" treasure.

Here's one of his best (used as a soundtrack to Katrina in 2005). His works will live on long after he's gone--classics.

ETA: Can't wait for his new composition!

9. I cry now when I hear that song. Reminds me of Katrina.

I also LOVE Aaron Neville's cover of this:

10. I like both versions, too. Randy's is more "folk" and Neville's more R&B, but they both bring tears!
