It is useful to think of an channel like Al Nas TV as Fox News
Al Nas television is a conservative Sunni religious channel based in Egypt that broadcasts, via satellite, to much of the Arab world. (As always, the Arab world is a subset of the Islamic world. Morocco to Iraq.)
For reasons known only to Al Nas TV, they chose this week to make a big deal out of something that had been on youtube for two months without much notice, and implicating the government of the United States.
I see this stuff all the time. We all do. Sean Hannity devotes a breathless hour to some old video of something and spends the hour telling the audience that the video is the worst thing that ever happened, that they are morally defective if they are not apoplectic with rage, and that whatever the video is, Barrack Obama is somehow personally responsible for it.
The War on Christmas?
We are all familiar with this dynamic. Conservative religious/political news manufacturing outrage with whatever seems juicy in order to serve an agenda.
Not all Americans are Fox zombies and not all Arabs are Al Nas zombies. Evey nation and culture has its zombies who sit watching outrage-TV.
If Fox news devoted a night of programming to how Obama is a terrorist and some viewers of the program went out and started throwing molotov cocktails at the White House we would all understand the dynamic perfectly.
