Jones received an honorary degree from an unaccredited theology school in 1983, and began using the title "Doctor." He was fined for this misuse of a credential title by a German administrative court.[9][11] By the late 2000s (decade), the CGK grew to have a membership of approximately 8001000.[10] According to the German magazine, Der Spiegel, the congregation kicked Jones out in 2008 due to the "climate of fear and control" that he employed, which included elements of "brainwashing" and telling congregants to beat their children with rods.[10] He was accused of improper use of church funds, and forcing congregants to labor for free.[10] A leader of the Cologne church said Jones did not "project the biblical values and Christianity, but always made himself the center of everything." Others accused him of being violent and fanatical.[12] Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported that church members said Jones ran the Cologne church like a cult, using psychological pressure.[13]
Between 2001 and 2008, Jones served as the part-time pastor of the Gainesville, Florida church Dove World Outreach, frequently traveling back and forth between Germany and the United States.[9][14] Jones assumed full-time duties at Dove World Outreach in 2008 after leaving the German church.[9] By September 2010, Dove World was said to have 50 members,[15] with about 30 members reportedly attending services.[9]
In 2010 Jones published Islam Is of the Devil, a polemic that claims Islam promotes violence, and that Muslims want to impose sharia law in the United States.[16][17] After Jones announced the Quran burning, the German Evangelical Alliance denounced his theological statements and his craving for attention.[18]
Following an invitation from the English Defence League, Jones considered attending a rally in Luton in the U.K. in February 2011 to share his views. The anti-fascist group Hope not Hate petitioned the Home Secretary to ban Jones from entering the country.[19] In January 2011 the Home Secretary announced that Jones would be refused entry to the UK 'for the public good'.[20]
Jones' actions have prompted a religious group to place a $1.2 million bounty on his head; Hezbollah, a Lebanese political party and religious group, has announced a $2 million bounty.[21][22]
Jones planned to visit the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan to protest what he claims is "creeping sharia", but was arrested and jailed for a few hours.[23][24] Soon after he was interviewed at WJBK-TV, Jones' gun fired accidentally as he got into his car.[25]
The city allowed him to protest a week later in a designated "free speech zone" outside Dearborn City Hall.[26] Muslim protesters also appeared in opposition to his statements and actions.

Terry Jones, the Florida Koran-burner, allegedly made a movie vilifying Egypt's Muslims, and the Egyptian media got ahold of some clips.

(2,252 posts)Terry Jones is the Qur'an burning preacher from Florida.
Later reports suggest he is not (directly) connected with the film that sparked the Egypt and Libya protests.
From an AP article:
"I feel sorry for the embassy. I am mad," Bacile said.
Speaking from a telephone with a California number, Bacile said he is Jewish and familiar with the region. Bacile said the film was produced in English and he doesn't know who dubbed it in Arabic. The full film has not been shown yet, he said, and he said he has declined distribution offers for now.
"My plan is to make a series of 200 hours" about the same subject, he said.
Morris Sadek, an Egyptian-born Christian in the U.S. known for his anti-Islam views, told The Associated Press from Washington that he was promoting the video on his website and on certain TV stations, which he did not identify.
Both depicted the film as showing how Coptic Christians are oppressed in Egypt, though it goes well beyond that to ridicule Muhammad - a reflection of their contention that Islam as a religion is inherently oppressive.

Film That Sparked Cairo, Bengazi Protests The Work Of An American-Israeli
Source: The Australian
THE film at the centre of anti-US protests in the Middle East was made by an Israeli-American who describes Islam as a "cancer", the Wall Street Journal says.
The movie, Innocence of Muslims, was directed and produced by Sam Bacile, a 52-year-old real-estate developer from southern California who says Islam is a hateful religion.
"Islam is a cancer," Mr Bacile told the newspaper.
--clip--
Mr Bacile told the paper on Tuesday he was responsible for the film, saying he had raised $US5 million ($A4.81 million) to make it from about 100 Jewish donors, who he declined to identify.

It is being promoted by controversial Florida pastor Terry Jones, who has drawn protests in the past for burning the Koran and vehemently opposing the construction of a mosque near Ground Zero in New York.
Jones said he planned to show a 13-minute clip of the film on Tuesday evening at his church in Gainesville, Florida.
-snip-
I don't think Terry Jones has the money or the brains to be involved in the 'making' the film - I think he's only a person that was going to show part of the film and he probably got that off of the internet.
Maybe tomorrow there will be more details out.

(42,239 posts)but the BBC had posted that at 11 September 2012 Last updated at 19:56 BST which would be late Tuesday morning in CA. Presumably then there was advance notice of Jones event.
Meanwhile Reuters are currently reporting :
On Tuesday, Egypt's prestigious Al-Azhar mosque and seat of Sunni learning condemned a symbolic "trial" of the Prophet organized by a U.S. group including Terry Jones, a Christian pastor who triggered riots in Afghanistan in 2010 by threatening to burn the Koran.
But it was not immediately clear whether it was the event sponsored by Jones, or another, possibly related, anti-Islam production, that prompted the melee at the U.S. Embassy in Egypt, and possibly the violence in Libya.

(1 post)I hope that this bigot Terry feels justified in his actions. Obviously, this man calls himself a Christian. I hope he feels that the life of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was worth the hateful, intolerant messages he has been spewing.
