(47,675 posts)I'm sorry, but he's not in the "big boned" category. He did that to himself and that means no self-control. Yes, some people are naturally fat and that's fine. He's a glutton.

(30,404 posts)It not just that he is overweight, it is that he is a BULLY.
He is always telling others what they need to do and because of his size, he comes on strong.
He reminds me of "The Big Bad Wolf."
Health and Wellness is a growing concern for Americans - to stay in shape indicates that you care enough about your health and appearance that you make some efforts to try to be fit.
When you are a public figure/ movie star you are before the public and thus a "role model,"
For him to be photographrd at some park licking on an ice cream and being a bully speaks to his character as far as I am concerned...

(47,675 posts)The "role model" part is exactly correct. Say what they want about the "healthy lunch" thing being a liberal plot (for what, I'm not sure), but I just read in the paper recently that districts that have adopted the approach have seen a noticeable drop in the average BMI of their students. We're becoming a nation of couch potatoes, or perhaps we've already become one, but that trend is not only something that can be reversed as a whole but it can also be reversed on the individual level. Meanwhile, we've got deep fried butter and deep fried candy bars at every damn carnival or fair in the country.
It isn't just an individual health issue either. Note: I'm NOT talking about people who are naturally large/fat here, but those who get that way because of their own choices. This is a national concern. The military is having trouble finding people who even come close to passing the physical requirements. My daughter's boyfriend is in very good shape, but he's got a few pounds the Army isn't happy about. We bust his ass about his diet and exercising (he leaves for drill tomorrow). Our healthcare system is overloaded with preventable problems caused by excess weight like heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and gastrointestinal issues. For the Republicans out there, that translates into COST!
My wife's been a teacher for over 20 years. It used to be that there was the "fat kid" in every classroom, like it was when I was in school. Now it's the "slender kid" that stands out. I couldn't figure out why group after group of reasonably fit parents and pudgy kids would come and go from her school while I was waiting for her to get off work until she said that she'd stopped asking the kids what they had for dinner the night before (part of the provided curriculum she mostly ignores) because the answers were almost exclusively "Wendy's", "McDonald's", and "Burger King". Many of them don't eat dinner unless it's in the back of the car or SUV. They get snack and lunch at the school and she requires them to take a "no thank you bite" of everything they protest against eating. It's amazing how often that "no thank you bite" turns into a "can I have some more of this, please?"
And yes, my dietary choices took me from 130 to 175 in a very short time. I'm back down to my normal weight now, but it was how I was eating that did it. I worked on the road and, as a vegetarian, often found that grilled cheese sandwiches or egg and cheese sandwiches were all I could find to eat. Cheese is fine in moderation, but it can lead to your downfall. It took a conscious effort to get back to a healthy state. I also wasn't being a good role model for my kids in that respect.

(24,692 posts)Gov. Chris Christie today defended his plans to campaign for an Iowa Congressman who recently suggested that the family of a high-ranking Democratic adviser is entrenched in the Muslim Brotherhood.
I dont have to agree with everything somebody I campaign for says, the governor said at a news conference, adding: I havent taken a lot of time to study his comment.
U.S. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) last month repeated statements first made by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the chairwoman of the tea party caucus in the House, and four other conservative lawmakers about Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The lawmakers said they believed Abedins relatives have alleged connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to The Los Angeles Times.
"The things I am hearing from people doing investigations beyond what we see in the news indicate very strongly to me that her family network, her network, is deeply entrenched in the Muslim Brotherhood," King said at a town hall meeting in Iowa. "That's what I see from the news, and that's what I see from the investigative reports that have not yet been published.
