Lets not forget about that OTHER 9/11.

When a CIA-backed Fascist coup killed Chile's democratically elected president and put Pinochet in power.

2. 9/11 started way back in 1953

3. Was that a typo or did you actually mean '1953'? If so, what

happened in 1953? (I was thinking something about Iran and Mossadegh, but nothing about 9/11/1953 stands out. CIA-backed coup in Iran took down Mossadegh on August 19, 1953.)

7. I meant 1953 and was referencing the overthrow

Was not trying to say the coup happened on 9/11/1953
just that the US trying to control the Middle East lead to 9/11

9. Personally, I take it back to 1923 (to the Sykes-Picot agreement

that divvied up territories of the defeated Ottoman Empire between the Brits and the French). But your point is well-taken anyway.

4. I was just thinking about that.

And who, pray tell, did Pinochet and his fascist goons turn to for the "restructuring" of the Chilean economy? Well, cats and kittens, that would be Milton Friedman, who made Chile his first experiment in the Shock Doctrine.

This should not be forgotten, ever. Nixon and Kissinger were evil SOBs down to their core.

5. Emphatic K&R (and shout-out to Arundhati Roy, one of whose speeches first

brought this to my attention.)

6. It's the only thing I really think about...

I teach Latin American history.
And I try to put 11-9-01 out of my mind. Very sad for the people who lost loved ones, but our country changed- and not in a good way- as a result.
