Just days after Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum took heat for singling out blacks on entitlement reform, Newt Gingrich called out the African-American community for being dependent on food stamps -- despite the fact that blacks make up less than one third of recipients in the food stamp program.

Gingrich, during an appearance in Plymouth, New Hampshire, spoke about remarks he would theoretically make if invited to speak to the NAACP.

"I'm prepared if the NAACP invites me, I'll go to their convention and talk about why the African American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps," Gingrich said.

The former House speaker has made a habit of calling President Obama the "food stamp president" -- a nickname he used on Thursday as well -- and has often painted the contrast between himself and Mr. Obama as a choice between paychecks and food stamps.

4. Except that the percentage of minorities receiving Food Stamps

is about a third. Of the 45 or so million Americans on Food Stamps only 33% of them are minorities.

Gingrich and Santorum are racists and liars. Period. They are race baiting their audience.

Gingrich obviously cares very, very much for minorities (and all poor people), and would NEVER race bait! He just has their best interests at heart!!

By taking away food stamps from the poor of all races (but A.A. in particular since HE singled them out), poor people could starve to death! They would be put out of their misery!! Alternatively, having food stamps taken away could urge them to turn to a life of crime (a la Jean Valjean) to put food on the tables for their families. See, they could then end up in prison which will provide them with health care. Then they could put themselves to good use and work for the multinationals at 40 cents an hour while simultaneously having their freedom completely taken away from them! At long last they would be productive members of society, and they won't be leeches for the rest of their lives! I'm sure they would have much more fulfilling lives this way. See how much Gingrich cares for them?!

So, how is taking food stamps away from the poor such a bad thing?!?! They will clearly benefit from it in the long run!

is one that is "satisfied with food stamps."

This is so toxic on so many levels.

First it associates African-Americans with food stamps and welfare, or, at least, reinforces popular associations between the two.

Then it stealthfully makes the argument that anybody unemployed shoud get "demand" a job, conveniently ignoring the fact that there are no jobs being offered from which to demand.

The last numbers I saw had them at 39% of all welfare cases. That is 3X their population. It's called a RATIO. What is the White population? Probably around 60% at the most. Even if Whites take 60% of all welfare, it's still only the same as their representation of the general population.

It's a bit odd to me that you would play fast and loose with the truth. The truth is that Blacks have a much higher poverty rate than Whites do. Are you suggesting that BP don't need food stamps? Of course not all do but it's silly to claim that as a whole they don't need help, especially when you see the disparity between Black and White net worth in this country.

Newt, there are these things you need to have if you want to get paychecks and not food stamps. They're called "jobs."

The people who get food stamps, by and large, don't have jobs.

Now, what's your plan to create jobs? And if your only answer is more tax cuts...drop out, go Galt and let the rest of us try to fix the devastation your party caused.
