Paul Ryan says he misstated marathon claim.

Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan says he didn't run a marathon in less than three hours as he claimed in a nationally broadcast interview.

The candidate acknowledged Saturday he had misstated his marathon time by more than an hour.

He released a statement correcting the record after Runner's World magazine found evidence he had completed one marathon and finished in just over four hours.

Ryan told radio host Hugh Hewitt last month he had run a "two hour and fifty-something" marathon. That's a pace of less than 7 minutes per mile for the 26.2 mile course - extremely fast for recreational runners.

He needs to be asked for a clarification on his clarification. And while they are at it, they need to ask his brother Tobin if he gave Ryan "a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight." That sounds like a fishy attempt to make this all funny. It is hard to imagine a brother giving his Vice Presidential nominee brother "a good ribbing" over something that makes him a liar. How's that funny? How is that a ribbing?

Is "misstated claim" a metaphor for "telling a lie" now?

If he lies about running a marathon, how can we trust him on other issues? Such as Medicare, or the Janesville plant that closed under Dumbya, which he is blaming Obama for?

The man is a liar and can't be trusted.

Any runner would know their time for the marathon instantly. Twenty years later I recall my PR of 3 hours 45 minutes 48 seconds ... Ryan is no better than a teenager exaggerating to try to impress.

when in fact he rode a bus and walked through the shopping mall.

A marathon under 3 hours is extraordinary -- world class racing.

A marathon over 4 hours is pretty darned good good for a regular guy, but nothing like a 3 hour result.

It wasn't a little exaggeration. It wasn't a white lie. It wasn't faulty memory.

It was a snot-nosed punk who has been a big fish in a little pond, never held accountable for anything his entire life. Welcome to the big stage, Paul Ryan.

as a former marathoner who once almost made the starting line of a sub 3 hour attempt.... no sub 3 hours in the marathon is not "world class racing" ... not even national class actually. It's good but nothing that will even place in most small local marathons actually - Just sayin'

Don't get me wrong it says a lot about Ryan's character (or lack there of).

The best times ever in the most favorable courses in the most favorable conditions are just over 2 hours. Ryan claimed "2 hours, 50-something". So he was not claiming world record time, but (correct me if I am wrong) it seems to me that sub-3 is still a very elite result. I would think it would never happen that a person would run one race in their life and that would be under 3.

Only truly gifted distance runners would be able to do it in a first time out kind of situation.

Apparently Ryan didn't think anyone would bother to check his comment. It says a great deal about who he is.

I'm sorry, I misstated. I have a six-inch penis.

Because a six-inch and an 16-inch penis are easy to confuse, you see.

Nothing wrong with a 4-hour time for a marathon; it's a bit more than a 9-minute mile. Perfectly respectable, and twice that of an average walking pace. No reason to lie... but he did anyway.
