He was just pointing out what an empty suit Obama is. I'm not even quite sure how to respond to that statement? Are these people crazy? Wait, yes they are... an empty suit? Bush who they voted for and his policies drove this nation into the deepest damn Recession since the Great depression and they call Obama an empty suit? Who's the empty suit again? This is a tea partier saying this by the way...
Another new one this morning, Massachusetts was 47th in job growth because at the time unemployment was Nationally around 4%. Somehow that gives Romney the okay to have almost the lousiest job growth record? How does that even make sense?
I'm shaking my head at these people...

(20,166 posts)I'd leave it alone if I were Obama's team. It backfired bigtime on the GOP and has become a meme all its own (e.g., rich crazy white man angry at a black threat that isn't there, etc.)

(3,657 posts)believes what they are going to believe.... it's screwed up, that's all I can say....
The 4% statement, how does that excuse Romney from having the state be #1 in job creation if that's his record?

(8,377 posts)I didn't watch any of that nonsense live. I figures if anything was noteworthy, I could watch it later on Youtube. As it turns out, this was the only speech worth taking the time to watch.
I agree it was strange. And I certainly know 82-year-olds who a re a lot sharper than Eastwood is. But I got his point. It was a way of making the same angry points that were nonstop throughout this convention, without seeming like a complete dick.
To me, that is the issue. Why was everybody such a complete dick? Where were the ideas? Hell, we couldn't even get factual statements from them, let alone sensible proposals for how they might solve the problems. Romney' big "idea" is to cot the federal government to 20% of GDP, which will magically produce 20 million jobs in 4 years? No, that makes no sense.
I didn't think Eastwood was any worse than any other speech, and he was a little easier to take.
The problem last night was not Eastwood. The problem was that other than Eastwood, all you had in that entire building was a bunch of angry old white jerks with no vision, no ideas, no solutions.
Eastwood was probably the best moment of the convention.

But, isn't weird a good thing in Hollywood? And shouldn't we be grateful that Eastwood doing anything replaced that Donald guy who was afraid of a little rain?
So, yeah, I actually liked Pale Rider and think the critics just didn't get it. I liked the empty chair, too, and had no idea a geriatric Eastwood could do improv.
Now, who's gonna steal the show for us next week?

(18,184 posts)Remember how the initial "surprise" was rumored to be Trump talking to an Obama look-a-like, but that was canceled due to Hurricane Isaac.
IMO they just recycled the idea but without the look-a-like.

Welcome to the world of Romney-nomics. You can be eliminated.

(18,672 posts)Clint Eastwood demonstrated the mindset of the Republicans perfectly - choose and then demonize an invisible enemy, accuse them of all sorts of shit, and presume to speak for him/her, then claim victory. The truth is, anyone could be in that chair, because that chair is "Other".
Or perhaps it was just a crazy display from an 82 year old man who has seen better days.

(82,383 posts)Republicans create "logic" like that. It is so easy to shoot down. Eventually they will realize they are wrong. They just won't admit it to you. To a Republican, being wrong is the worst thing in the world, not to be publicly admitted ever. So it does not mean that you did not convince them.
