If you didn’t get involved in the barricades during the student revolt then nothing was likely to happen to you The only thing that happened to me was that my friends and I, all long-haired musicians in a rock band went into a café for a cup of coffee while waiting for a music club to open. While we were inside, the police conducted a sweep of long-haired youth and took away everyone who had been standing in line for the club to open.

My mother went to Paris on a trip that year and got caught up in some Sorbonne student protests on the left bank. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_1968_protests_in_France She got scared but she made it home intact. On the other hand there were violent protests across the country here in the USA, the most notable being the Democratic Convention in Chicago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Democratic_National_Convention

Which was the most dangerous place?
