Check out this YouTube link, which is spreading quickly on Twitter:
This is the full quote from the Republican wife of a vet at the American Legion Convention, who NPR says has "strong feelings" about President Obama:
"I just don't like him. Can't stand to look at him. I don't like his wife - she's far from the First Lady. It's about time we get a First Lady in there who acts like a First Lady and looks like a First Lady."

(11,304 posts)and I would tell them to stop and they would start talking about the mommas and boy the war broke out. I finally would tell them to stop bringing your mothers into this fight they have nothing to do with it. All the kids around would start laughing. My 82 yr old mother-in-law use to call Mrs Barbara Bush the grandmother "bug eye". Now I wasn't crazy for the woman but I sure didn't like her calling her those names.
I know , all they want is a blonde , paper doll Barbie , Cardboard cutout . I love our FLOTUS , she is so real ,warm, and caring . PERFECT !!

The bigot wouldn't know what a true lady was even if she stood right in front of him. Our ancestors came to this land so that we wouldn't be under the thumb of a monarch, a fact the Romneys seem to ignore.

Why don't they just save themselves (and us) a lot of time and just come out and say what it is: They don't like Obama because he is an African-American. They don't like his wife for the same reason. They don't like his kids for the same reason.
GOP: OWN YOUR HATE AND BIGOTRY. Both are so obvious that it is sickening. You don't like Obama because of who he is. Period.

She doesn't dislike Black people, as long as they 'know their place.'

For many vets, serving is/was THE moment of thier lives, whether they saw combat or not. They feel as though they are a very large band of brothers.

(22,756 posts)when someone is so mired in their prejudices and preconceptions that they can't see what is... Michelle Obama is doing such wonderful work for the Country, helping Veterans and their families, being a fantastic role model for children, inspiring them to become more healthy so that they have a better chance of reaching their potential.
Since day 1, I have admired Michelle Obama but when I went to the White House and met her, shook her hand spoke with her... I was enthralled with her grace and authenticity!!!!

(26,280 posts)"What do you think a First Lady should "look like"?" dont you?
Personally when I imagine a First Lady I imagine it being someone who dresses well and appears friendly and easy going much like Michelle Obama.
I cant say that I got that feeling from the last few first ladies because to be honest none of them and I mean none of the past 4 have really captured my own image of what a first lady is until now.

(53,661 posts)Other people, she'd've cheered.
She is the kind of white person I have always avoided in life, that I stayed as far away as I could, as if it was an infectious disease.
Since you cannot help what is wrong with them because they're that shallow and hateful. It's sad to judge the book by its cover and not its content.
The Obamas are the best thing we've had since Kennedys and actually even better, as I was telling my kid yesterday. There is a reason the surviving Kennedys have supported them.
It's the inner qualities. They are open, accepting and forgive their enemies. And they didn't seek to make enemies.
A person is known not only by their friends but by their enemies. Just take a listen to their enemies, who are not anyone we want to have any power over our lives.

(22,893 posts)She was a knock-out in her shimmering black dress. Witty and sharp, she and DL jousted back and forth good-naturedly--it was a riot. She's regal but relaxed, feminine but can hold her own with anyone, an egghead (she and the President both) who can giggle over DL's wisecracks like we all do, an angel with her feet planted firmly on the ground. Small wonder hubby is madly in love with her! We all are. And, as with the President, watching and listening to her is a huge treat. Best of all, knowing she's our First Lady makes me very proud. They have, and continue to, represent us impeccably well. It's a pity that Mr. Racist is unable to open his eyes and embrace the First Couple because they are truly extraordinary people.
