Smokey, whose owner tried to break the cat's neck to stop paying vet bills, is up for adoption at the Manchester Animal Shelter. CatNow up for Adoption after Owner Found Guilty of Animal Cruelty Manchester,NH - August 23, 2012 -

More thanfour months after a Manchester man was arrested for trying to snap the neck ofhis cat and leave it for dead, Smokey the cat is now up for adoption at theManchester Animal Shelter. WhenSmokey became ill last April with a urinary tract infection, police say hisowner tried to break his neck because he couldn't afford the veterinarianbills. When Smokey passed out from lack of oxygen instead of the break,

theowner tossed him into bushes by the sideof a Manchester parking lot thinking he was dead. Fortunately,a passerby heard Smokey's cries and contacted animal control.

The owner, who was found guilty on two counts of animal cruelty, was ordered to pay a$1,200 fine with $1,000 suspended for three years. He also was prohibited fromowning or caring for an animal during that time.

TheManchester Animal Shelter believes this case serves as an important reminderfor pet owners to treat their animals humanely, even when faced with high veterinary bills. "Thereare many programs to help pet owners cover costs.

If I could have another cat, I'd take him. Might be worth the drive up to find the bastard that did that.

living on a farm, sometimes it becomes necessary to euthanize an animal. It is careless euthanizing of animals which results in torture which I suspect is the basis for the charges against this idiot.
