I've been a big fan of Claressa Shields ever since I heard her audio diary on NPR months ago. I was overjoyed when she won the gold medal.

2. That woman is joy

her being from Flint is just awesome.

And she whipped the tar out of the women she fought. Listening to Maddow try to explain it was hilarious, but she wasn't far off. She beat the living daylights out of that woman in the semis, and she laid a pretty good beating on her opponent in the Gold medal bout.

She was WAY better than her opponents. WAY better. She kicked ass.

(And I *hate* Olympic boxing, which they basically killed thanks to the South Koreans and the RJJ fiasco - 10 point must is coming back, so the Olympic version of the sport may finally rise above puke-inducing nearly impossible to watch. But the one way around the ridiculous scoring nonsense is to just pummel the crap out of the run and touchers from Europe and Asia. Claressa didn't leave anything to chance. She just beat the hell out of the opposition)
