A college student has a "new" car. It's all thanks to a Roanoke auto shop.
Jordan Addison is a student at Radford University. Between March and May of this year his car was vandalized four times. Once at his home and three times on-campus.
"The first time there were some homophobic slurs keyed into the side of it," says Addison, "Then the second time I had dye keyed into it."
Addison believes he was targeted because he's gay. The homophobic slur was written across one side of this car and he tried to everything to cover it but nothing worked.

..but maybe the next time the old van needs some paint or body work, I'll take it to Virginia. Yeah, Quality Auto Paint and Body in Roanoke. Virginia is not that far to go for quality. And I think there are some people with hearts, minds, and hands of real Quality there who know the difference between hurting and frightening a person or helping and respecting that person.
Thanks for the post. And more thanks to the people in Roanoke who made the post possible. And much respect and hope for Jordan in his quest for a happy, fulfilling life.

(2,252 posts)2. Well, shucky darns, looks like these folks have an obsession ...
...with making someone at risk feel good about themselves through their cars/trucks:
On Thursday night, Junior, his parents and about two dozen others waited to spring a surprise on Jason Clary, 25. Clary had returned to Roanoke that very afternoon after a one-year tour in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. Junior had spearheaded a three-month makeover of his childhood friend's 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup -- an effort supported by donations of money and materials, sweat equity from friends and family, and a bikini car wash.
People said they pitched in because they care about Clary and wanted to demonstrate in a tangible way their gratitude for all American veterans and those still in harm's way.

The full story is here.
With the rising rate of suicide among Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, anything that can help is good. And if the people who help feel good too, or even profit commercially because they care, well that's alright.
Richard Shindell's song The Things That I Have Seen suggests the fate to which Jason Clary might have succumbed without these body and paint, kind-hearted, caring people.
