Look, I am in Tampa, a Democratic voting city. A city that is not so thrilled about the fact that the Mayor is seeking to attract all those GOP asshats into our town, in hopes of making Tampa a convention star. We are annoyed that they shove all these "road improvements" in our face, when we ask why the hell these things were only ok when they were meant to keep out of town GOP happy? No, we do not like the fact that we will be stuck in traffic while a bunch of bad tipping, bad driving assholes come into the town.
So for all of you hoping Hurricane Isaac hits us,please, there are some collateral damage folks here. I can truly understand the image of several GOP asshats being washed out to sea, bloated and rotting like the Katrina victims they made fun of. I would love the idea that they would get flooded into Ybor City or Channelside, then ask "why is it so flooded" then they can ask Rick Scott where the funds were to improve the sewer (but I cut that so we could get a tax break).
However, I can assure you, the people that would suffer would be us, not them. I can easily see them use a disaster as an excuse to call in Blackwater goons, and I have no doubt they would use it to take over the state, making any democrat a proestor or felon, keeping them in jail well after elections.

I'm pretty sure sentient higher beings-if there are any- don't hate. Their minions hate, and project that hate. I'd hope your goddess was a little more fair than condemning innocent people because of where they live.

(377 posts)There is religious freedom for delusional people to worship phoney big-penis-in-the-sky gods, but Goddess gets pissed when the self-deluders attack her favorites. There are no innocent people. You are protecting the weak, or you are not, and those attacking and their enablers are burning in hell, literally, turn on your news fer-chrissakes.
Justice is not hate. Learn the difference.

You'll make a lot of friends around here by attacking-broadbased- red states. There are lots of Democrats, Liberals, leftists, Socialists, etc., who live in red states.
Give me a small break.
Oh, and by the way, I'm sorry you worship such a hateful deity. I don't have to have some entity tell me how to live my life.

No I don't want Tampa to get flattened. However if it hit, and the GOP were there...
Well I would have popcorn.

So I don't want any destruction to rain down upon Tampa.
There are a lot of very good people in Tampa: Progressive, forward-looking people.

Destruction of the Tampa/Clearwater area would not be cool. I have a friend who lives in Clearwater.
But I'd laugh my ass off to see one little cloud hanging over the RNC proceedings, making life supremely uncomfortable (miserable, actually) for a certain group.

(13,616 posts)You cannot get more socialist than Swedish IKEA. Could be worse, they could wind up having to float around in Ybor, begging for food from the folks in the taller buildings on 7th ave, which, unknown to them, are the part of "GaYbor" ,the LGBT district. For those outside Tampa, some of the older hotel/older department stores got converted into the LGBT district. One of them, CZAR, covers a whole city block. It is exactly the sort of place where the average homophobic politicians gets caught making foot signals in the bathroom.
Nah, knowing my luck, the folks in the local Scientology church will be there to help. Again, for those outside of Tampa, the Scientologists bought an entire THREE STORY MALL out as their church complex. It is an old cigar factory with a courtyard area, meant to function like a castle, complete with gates and towers. They will be well prepped for a Hurricane, perhaps in more ways than one.

(22,000 posts)In fact I think there is really less than a 50% chance it will. The path of hurricanes/typhoons change and it more likely it will graze the east side of Florida and go up the coast or graze Miami and go into the Gulf toward the west. The truth is no one can control it either way.
I think people just see an irony that these are the same people (the Republicans) that didn't give a shit about those who were hit by Katrina 7 years ago and let them rot and die until people finally started screaming for help.
It's too bad they didn't have their convention in Houston.
Gothmog
(144,919 posts)Houston had the 1992 convention and the poor Astros had to schedule a large number of consecutive away games to accommodate the GOP. Today we have several locations that could handle the GOP.

(30,481 posts)So many good people around here are hurting. This will help many of them. And if it goes really well it might attract other conventions to our area. We will gladly take their money. It also livens up the area, and gets people aware who normally don't care. This has caused quite a buzz around the area for some time now. The local news shows are starting to do a pretty good job of showing policy differences between Mitt and Obama leading up to the convention. Our local anchor persons are pretty darn good.

(3,709 posts)I don't want Issac to hit anyone. While we cannot control nature, and the storm will go where it's directed by the winds and currents, I don't want it to hit Miami, Tampa or anyplace in between. I am pretty positive no one on this Board wants that.
However, I think all of us hope for a bit of uneasiness for the Repubs as they head that way, but I don't want them in danger either.
Please all of you who are in the path of this storm...get your supplies or get out if it's coming toward you. May you be safe!
