Missouri poll - 75% (64% of repubs) say Akin's statement was unacceptable. he still leads by 1%

Most telling, perhaps, was a survey conducted Monday by Public Policy Polling.

While 75% of Missouri voters, including 64% of Republicans, said Akin's statement on rape was unacceptable -- 79% disagreed with what he said -- Akin still held a lead over Democrat Claire McCaskill by a point, 44% to 43%.

Beverly Johnson of St. Charles, Missouri, in the heart of Akin's 2nd Congressional District, said she voted for Akin in the past and plans to vote for him again.

"I cringed because basically I agree with his stance on abortion," she said. "But the way he said it, it could have been worded differently. ... A legitimate rape? You know, like, what rapes aren't legitimate?"

Still, she thinks it's too soon to pass judgment.

------------

But in another poll conducted Monday by SurveyUSA for CNN affiliate KSDK-TV in St. Louis, 76% said they do not share the same views on rape and pregnancy as Akin, and a majority -- 54% -- said he should quit the race.

I thins poll will be shown to be wrong for several reasons in the days to come. How was it weighted and how many had even heard Akin's statement when they were polled. What until he is pummeled for a week in the media.

and bemoaned that if it had been weighted only +4, McCaskell would have been up by 3%.

the poll that will matter is after a few weeks when he's been battered in the media with the onslaught of campaign commercials reminding Missouri voters about that hateful comment.

Poll bounces do NOT happen overnight.

As far as I'm concerned until the conventions are done the polls mean squat to me.

science and the approval of criminality don't affect your vote. Unfortunately, some of these people are a lost cause and nothing short of a reeducation camp and intensive deprogramming as for any cult worshipper will bring them back to reality.
