Does Grover Norquist allow eliminating Deductions?

The entire Romney (secret) tax plan is to cut taxes on the rich by a staggering amount, but to make it revenue neutral by off-setting the cuts with reductions in deductions that are too secret to talk about.

Leaving aside that it's a lie, does Grover Norquist allow eliminating deductions... particularly deductions totaling trillions of dollars over ten years?

Sounds like a tax increase to me.

And if the cuts precede the off-setting elimination of deductions (as seems to be Romney's plan) then when we get to eliminating deductions they will surely be a tax increase. (They will raise taxes above the status quo, which would be the Romney tax-cut.)

1. Only if offset by a corresponding rate decrease

As I understand it, any change must be revenue neutral.

4. Actually, I don't think he'll do that...

Norquist doesn't care about revenue neutral (he's sort of opposed to it, really). He wants to shrink federal revenues overall. He's said that his organization (which is Grover and a fax machine) don't look at individual taxes, just the aggregate rate.

2. You mean that is the only secret?

I'd like to know what the Republican replacement for the ACA is. I'd like to know who are those donors behind closed doors and what are they being promised. What is the plan to fix the border? No one yet has revealed what specific agencies and regulations are on the Republican hit list.

3. he got after an R senator about closing loop holes

Sen Coburn IIRC. Norquist said closing loopholes = raising taxes. Asshole.

5. A "plan" that doesn't discuss closing specific loopholes is just another tax cut.

This needs to be a bigger campaign issue - if the deficit is such a big deal (and it is), Romney needs to show exactly how his "tax plan" will reduce the deficit.

6. I'm quite certain old Grover would be all for eliminating some tax deductions

You know, the ones that benefit middle class people, like mortgage interest if it gets him and his buddies ahead.

I really wonder why people in congress are making pledges to this guy, instead of serving their constituents.
